We are looking for a proactive and passionate Junior Superintendent who is thorough, efficient, and reliable. This role involves frequent interaction with our seafarers and a variety of partners across the shipping industry, so strong communication skills and a willingness to travel are essential. You should be a team player, while also capable of managing your tasks independently.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Include
- Ensuring the safe and efficient technical management of a dedicated fleet of vessels by maintaining a high level of reliability and compliance, with timely follow-up on improvement initiatives.
- Engaging and overseeing the senior management on board, driving continuous improvements, high motivation, and engagement.
- Undertaking financial planning and execution, including close monitoring of daily running costs.
- Analysing capital expenditures and project designs to implement the most efficient models.
- Planning and executing timely dockings, including planned improvement projects.
- Continuously analysing and developing operational methods to find efficient alternatives.
- Acting as a technical advisor to support the DFDS organisation, including participation in operational due diligence and execution.
About you Skills
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership potential and possess extensive technical knowledge of the maritime industry. Most importantly, you must have the appropriate social and behavioural skills to engage with diverse cultures and maintain a high level of motivation for ongoing improvements. We expect the following:
- Educational background in a relevant field, such as Marine Engineering, Dual Officer, or Naval Architecture.
- 2nd or Chief Engineer Competency, or equivalent qualifications, is required.
- Willing to transition to shore-based work in their first superintendent role.
- Experience in RoPax, Ro-Ro, or High-Speed vessels is preferred.
- Willingness to develop leadership skills within a complex organisational structure, working across countries and cultures.
- Ability to engage and lead a cross-functional team of experts across various disciplines.
- Proficient in IT skills.
- Strong command of English, both written and spoken, at a negotiation level.
- Confidence to make and stand by difficult decisions.
- Ability to travel 50–80 days per year, including potentially longer periods during dockings or repairs.
- Ideally based in the Kent area.
- Candidates must have the right to live and work in the UK.
