Laboratory Research Scientist
Details of the role:
Working pattern: Monday – Friday. This is a full-time, fixed term (12 months maternity cover) position on Crick terms and conditions of employment.
About us
The Francis Crick Institute is Europe’s largest biomedical research institute under one roof. Our world-class scientists and staff collaborate on vital research to help prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, infectious diseases and neurodegenerative conditions.
The Crick is a place for collaboration, innovation and exploration across many disciplines. A space where the brightest minds can pursue big and bold ideas and discover answers to crucial scientific questions. We support them in a dynamic environment which fosters excellence with state-of-the-art infrastructure, cutting-edge facilities, and a creative and curious culture. We’ve removed traditional boundaries of departments, divisions and disciplines and instead have an open approach that supports every researcher. This gives us the freedom to take risks and carry out high-quality, pioneering research. Creating a space for discovery without boundaries helps us to turn our science into benefits for human health and the economy.
The Research Group
We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive person to provide research support to our team at the Francis Crick Institute. Our group is studying protein ubiquitination, a post-translational modification that regulates virtually every aspect of cellular life. Specifically, we are interested in the protein machinery and regulatory mechanisms mediating the ubiquitination process.
To gain molecular insight into this process we are employing a broad array of structural, biochemical and biophysical approaches. In parallel, we’re applying chemical biology approaches to develop chemical probes and inhibitors targeting ubiquitin system components.
About the role
We are looking for a Laboratory Research Scientist who will join our team and support the structural and functional studies we are carrying out on different components of the ubiquitin system.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to be involved in developing tools that support ongoing projects in the team, working closely with other lab members. You should have previous experience in general molecular biology techniques and protein expression and purification methods, though specific training can be provided as required. You will carry out a variety of biochemical assays and will be involved in novel assay development as the need arises.
If you have previous lab experience as well as a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in biochemistry or related discipline, this may be a great opportunity for you to join the team.
