Lab Coordinator – Scientific Operations
Location: Cambridge, UK
Working Hours: Monday–Friday, Full-Time
Salary: £35,000 basic + 5% bonus + 8% pension + private healthcare

Scope
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lab Coordinator to oversee the day-to-day operational management of a designated set of laboratories within a leading scientific organisation. This is a pivotal role ensuring smooth, safe, and compliant lab operations, equipment maintenance, and effective stakeholder communication.
You will serve as the primary point of contact for lab users and suppliers, supporting both technical and facilities-related needs, while driving service excellence, process improvement, and compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day operational oversight of defined lab spaces, ensuring optimal materials flow, equipment availability, and service delivery
- Coordinate and monitor preventive and reactive maintenance across FM (Facilities Management) suppliers with minimal disruption to operations
- Lead investigations into SLA deviations and deliver root cause analysis reports and corrective actions
- Collaborate with procurement and scientists to manage lab consumables and budgets, ensuring efficient spend tracking and usage monitoring
- Act as the ‘super-user’ for key lab instrumentation, performing user checks and coordinating with IT and service providers to ensure functionality
- Deliver and track cost-saving or process optimisation initiatives
- Liaise with stakeholders and suppliers to organise equipment demos and training
- Support audits, facilitate safety documentation (e.g. COSHH, risk assessments), and uphold Health & Safety policies in labs
- Partner with capital planning and equipment demand teams to align on lab investment needs and technology innovation
- Maintain SOPs and compliance records, and support internal and external visits and inspections
About You:
- BSc or MSc in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline
- Familiarity with laboratory regulatory standards such as GxP and GLS
- Knowledge of equipment such as UPLCs and NMRs is advantageous
- Strong customer service orientation with a collaborative approach
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Previous experience coordinating laboratory operations
- Proficiency in lab compliance, SOPs, and safety procedures
- Knowledge of SHE (Safety, Health & Environmental) policies
- Experience leading or contributing to lab audits and regulatory reviews
- Strong organisational, analytical, and decision-making capabilities
- Project management skills and ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma principles is a plus
- Skilled in data reporting, particularly using Excel
