Laboratory Shift Technician

About You

You’ll be methodical, organised, and able to manage your time effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment. With a strong focus on accuracy and quality, you’re confident working independently or as part of a team. A keen eye for detail, the ability to follow procedures carefully, and an understanding of laboratory safety practices will be key to your success.

Key Requirements

• GCSEs/A Levels (or equivalent) in science-related subjects
• Knowledge of laboratory test methods and safety practices
• Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively
• Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
• Flexible, reliable, and proactive approach to work
• Previous laboratory experience is desirable but not essential

About The Opportunity

As a Laboratory Shift Technician, you will prepare, test, and report on submitted samples using both basic and advanced techniques. Working to agreed methodologies, you’ll contribute to maintaining quality, health, safety, and environmental standards in line with Intertek’s procedures and external accreditation requirements. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure across a range of laboratory activities and develop your skills with the potential to progress to a Laboratory Shift Leader role.

Key Activities

• Perform sample analysis in line with agreed procedures and standards
• Maintain accurate records of testing, observations, and calculations
• Input results into the laboratory system and produce reports
• Carry out daily statistical quality control testing and highlight abnormalities
• Support inter-laboratory correlation schemes
• Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated, and functioning correctly
• Assist with audits and ensure compliance with ISO and accreditation standards
• Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures, reporting incidents and near misses
• Maintain stock levels and ensure effective handovers between shifts
• Uphold high housekeeping standards within the laboratory
