The role
Are you ready to lead one of the most unique and diverse land management teams in Wales?
We're looking for an inspiring and driven individual to take on the role of Land Management and Forest Operations Team Leader in beautiful North East Wales. This is your chance to make a real impact-overseeing a dynamic programme of forest operations and sustainable land management across 12,000 hectares of iconic landscapes including Clocaenog Forest, Y Berwyn National Nature Reserve, and recreation hotspots within the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB.
As Team Leader, you'll head up the only combined Land Management and Forest Ops team of its kind in Wales. You'll be responsible for coordinating a busy operational programme, managing a high-performing team, and delivering against SMNR (Sustainable Management of Natural Resources) and Wellbeing goals. Your remit will cover everything from health and safety to budget control, while ensuring we meet the highest standards in environmental stewardship.
You'll bring strong communication and leadership skills, a collaborative mindset, and the confidence to engage with partners, stakeholders and the wider public to embed best practice and deliver measurable environmental and community outcomes.

What you will do
- Be responsible for land management decisions and operational delivery' at place level, ensuring adherence to the industry standards to adhere to all relevant legislation and certification schemes.
- Develop and implement local work plans to deliver our programmes and legal liability compliance.
- Lead and develop staff and plan, monitor and manage resources to deliver workplan to budget and timescale.
- Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of team members by implementing and monitoring safe working practices and risk assessments.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to enhance risk-based decision making.
- Have budgetary control of team spending.
- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post

- Be committed to your own development through the effective use of your personal development plan (known as Sgwrs).
- Any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.
Your Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge And Skills
In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method .
- Professional membership (required, or to be attained within an agreed and reasonable timescale). Typically, MICEEM, MICFor, or MRICS.
- Experience of line management.
- Experience of a relevant scientific or technical subject to at least one of the programmes and staff group managed.
- Coaching and mentoring skills.
- Experience of community liaison and public engagement activities.
- Good understanding of commercial business processes and pressures.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of at least one of the following; conservation scientific subjects, land management, forest practise and forest operations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with regulated business and the public, explaining complex issues and gaining support by influencing.
Welsh Language Level Requirements
- Essential: Level A1 - Entry level (able to use and understand simple, basic phrases and greetings, no conversational Welsh)
