We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Lead Anaesthetic Practitioner to join our dedicated theatre team. In this key leadership position, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our Theatre Manager, providing expert clinical oversight, and ensuring the highest standards of patient care in anaesthetics are maintained at all times. You’ll lead a skilled team, drive innovation, and help shape the way we deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care.

This is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours a week over 4 days. Shifts are 7am until 5pm and some occasional weekend working may be required.


As our Lead Anaesthetic Practitioner, you will be:

  • Leading and managing the anaesthetic team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-focused peri-operative care in line with relevant legislation and policies.
  • Deputising for the Theatre Manager when required, maintaining overall responsibility for patient care within the department.
  • Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care, and supporting the training and development of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ensuring safe and efficient use of resources, maintaining high standards of infection control, and supporting continuous service improvement.
  • Assisting anaesthetists throughout all types of procedures, including spinal, epidural and general anaesthetics.
  • Overseeing the set-up and safe operation of anaesthetic rooms, equipment, and drug management.
  • Actively participating in clinical governance, audit, and quality initiatives to enhance patient safety and service delivery.
  • Acting as a mentor and role model, providing guidance and support to junior staff and fostering a positive, collaborative working culture.


As an HCPC registered ODP or RN with a recognised anaesthetic qualification, you will also have:

  • Proven experience in an operating theatre environment, including anaesthetics and recovery.
  • Advanced clinical knowledge of anaesthetics, sedatives, analgesics, and emergency drugs.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop your team.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, patient-centred approach.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail and high standards of care.
  • A flexible, positive attitude and willingness to adapt to a variety of duties and working hours.
  • Commitment to your own professional development and the development of your team.
