Lead Data Scientist

We are a small consulting firm specializing in the retail and supply chain sectors. Our team leverages advanced data analytics to provide actionable insights for our clients. We are looking for a talented Lead Data Scientist to join our dynamic team and contribute to our mission of delivering data-driven solutions by helping us discover the information hidden in large amounts of data and help extract valuable business insights for our clients. The candidate should have a strong background in statistics, keen sense of programming, machine learning and data visualization to effectively share the found insights in a clear manner.

Your primary focus will be on data cleansing, processing, applying data mining techniques, doing statistical analysis, building high quality prediction systems, identify questions, create new algorithms and drawing conclusions from the analysis.

In this role, you should be highly analytical with a knack for analysis, math and statistics. We are looking for someone with an engaging communication style with confidence in interpreting numerical information, and a genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for understanding the markets/clients.

A self-starter with an inquisitive nature and would want to look beyond the obvious to explore why things are there. Critical and conceptual thinking and problem-solving skills are essential alongside passion for machine-learning and research.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small team of Data Scientists
• Lead the development and implementation of advanced analytical models and machine learning algorithms.
• Oversee data analysis projects from start to finish, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
• Partner with clients to identify business challenges and provide strategic insights.
• Mentor and guide junior data scientists.
• Utilize Python, SQL, and Azure to deliver challenging projects with a robust commercial approach including but not limited to
• Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
• Undertaking the pre-processing of structured and unstructured data
• Selecting features, building, and optimizing models using machine learning techniques
• Correlating disparate data
• Data mining using state-of-the-art methods
• Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems
• Analyse large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns
• Deliver high quality actionable insights by performing ad hoc analysis to predict, measure and interpret business trends.
• Ability to build/amend Python APIs and machine-learning algorithms to support and deliver solutions to the clients.
• Clearly and concisely communicate data science insights that engage and influence both technical as well as non / less technical audiences.
• Create highly visual insights to support storytelling and visualization for the clients

Skills and Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering) and minimum 5 years working in a Data Science environment
• Demonstrable programming experience in Python for data science and machine learning
• Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and their applications in data science
• Proficient in Python, SQL, NoSQL databases
• Experience with version control like Git
• Experience with common data science toolkits (NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, Pandas, IPython, TensorFlow, PyTorch etc.) and Scikit-Learn highly desirable
• Extensive experience of data modelling and database design
• A passion for developing and communicating deep and valuable insights
• Extensive, demonstrable experience building and testing/validating machine learning models and using data mining techniques
• Experience of working in a cloud computing environment, preferably Microsoft Azure
• Experience using business intelligence tools (Tableau preferred)
• Knowledge of data governance and privacy considerations and principles
• Should be fluent in English (written & spoken)
