BAM Infrastructure are thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Lead Estimator to join our Rail team. You will be working within our pre-construction team, working on bids and supporting our early contractor involvement (ECI) projects on a variety of competitive tenders, negotiated works and call-off contracts. This is an exceptional opportunity for a driven professional to play a pivotal role in the securing of new projects and programmes of work, ensuring we deliver value, adding best-in-class preconstruction and early contractor involvement whilst providing day-to-day guidance and support to others in the Rail Estimating team.
The role will be based in any of our UK Rail Offices (York, Sevenoaks or Bristol) but we operate a hybrid working model, allowing you to mix working from home or from the office, together with visits to our project sites, client offices and our design partners offices.

Your mission
- Lead and support in preparing accurate, well-considered cost estimates across various work types, contract forms, and risk categories.
- Drive the Estimating input into the work-winning and governance process, with a strong understanding of the BAM Baseline.
- Handle commercially sensitive tender information responsibly.
- Collaborate closely with the bid and pre-construction teams, especially Planning Engineers and Bid Managers.
- Interpret project scope through 2D/3D digital drawings, extracting key data and quantities.
- Promote and apply digital construction tools and methodologies.
- Contribute to tender procurement and pricing strategies.
- Ensure receipt and evaluation of competent supply chain quotations, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Lead estimate preparation, aligning with procurement and commercial strategies.
- Coach others in using BAM's Estimating software.
- Identify and compare construction solutions based on feasibility, safety, sustainability, cost, and risk.
- Develop and maintain a priced Risk and Opportunity Register.
- Present and finalise estimates and tender submissions.
- Prepare clarification responses and support post-tender negotiations.
- Oversee the smooth handover of estimating information to project teams and gather feedback.
- Collect and share cost benchmarking and learning data.
- Stay updated on construction innovations and support team development.
Who are we looking for?
- Degree, HND in Civil Engineering or NVQ equivalent level.
- Suitable civil engineering site experience.
- Proven estimating experience in civil engineering bids as a Senior Estimator.
- Considerable variety in types of work and disciplines priced, with understanding of methods and typical production rates/outputs.
- Demonstrable understanding of common forms of contract.
- Proficient in the use of company estimating software.
- Knowledge of relevant company policies and procedures.

- Considerable knowledge of UK civil construction market.
- Experience in preparing large value and complex tenders.
- Familiarity in the use of digital QTO software.
