Main duties of the job
The Immunology department at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust are seeking an expert practitioner to join our team.
The successful post-holder will have expertise in immunology and will work in partnership with the clinical team, to develop, and expand the services we offer. This role is vital in establishing and delivering the highest standards of clinical care and supporting efficiency to drive improvements in health outcomes in immunology.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist Team Leader in Immunology manages a small team of nurses and support staff who work to provide excellent care to a cohort of patients with immunodeficiency. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership to the team, specialist advice across disciplines, specialities, and act as a role model for the delivery of expert care. Working within a highly skilled team, you will have the opportunity to develop your own skills already present, and to also learn new ones whilst promoting the trust values and excellent holistic patient care.
The Immunology team is well-respected nationally, and the postholder will help maintain this reputation through promoting quality research, disseminating good practice, and representing the team at relevant meetings and conferences.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The post-holder will be responsible for managing a caseload of patients referred for specialist intervention, care, and support: To provide professional and clinical leadership in the care of patients within the specialty of Clinical Immunology.
Work within a multidisciplinary team, having excellent communication skills. To deliver evidence-based, personalised, and compassionate care that places quality at the heart of your specialist practice and care.
To be responsive to individual needs and reflect the current local protocols and national guidelines, whilst working autonomously to provide an expert level of care by managing patient son immunoglobulin therapy in hospital and on home therapy.
Empower patients to manage their condition, using risk stratification techniques to identify education and health promotion strategies.
Advice and counsel on the complex disease and symptom management for patients within the specialty in both the inpatient and outpatient settings which includes leading and managing transition and specialist immunology MDT clinics.
Maintain clinical competencies relevant to the service and your role to demonstrate expertise and development and engage with and support the research and audit functions of the service to continuously identify and deliver improvement.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
- Level 7 Post Grad Cert (Min 60 Credits), Master’s Degree within relevant speciality or equivalent knowledge to be assessed through evidence of relevant speciality training, experience or portfolio
- Specialist training / Qualification in area of practice
- Provide evidence of leading learning in practice
- Evidence of experience and completion of all band 6 competencies within relevant speciality
- Specialist clinical skills and experience within specialist area
- Evidence of change Management, leadership and innovation
- Clinical experience at Band 6 or equivalent within relevant speciality
- Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote learning in practice providing an excellent learning environment for all
- Provide evidence of supporting / managing and supervision of a range of learnings in practice
Desirable criteria
- Counselling / advanced communication skills qualification / training
- Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
