Lead Process Surveillance Engineer
Location: Sussex, Kent, or Hampshire
Salary: from £53,400 - depending on experience
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Reporting to: Asset Reliability Manager
Southern Water is seeking a methodical and forward-thinking
Lead Process Surveillance Engineer to help us enhance the reliability and performance of our water and wastewater assets. Key Purpose
You’ll lead the charge in improving asset reliability through deep data analysis, proactive surveillance, and strategic collaboration with operations and maintenance teams. Each week, you’ll Conduct risk-based deep dives into site-specific performance, uncovering insights that drive smarter maintenance and operational strategies.
Accountabilities
- Champion proactive operator-led maintenance strategies
- Evaluate reliability, legislative and compliance based maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with HSE regulations such as COSHH, OSR, LEGIONELLA regulations
- Lead development of asset care plans
- Analyse long-range trends using advanced analytics tools
- Apply FMECA, RCA and industry best practices
- Develop business cases using whole life cycle cost analysis

- Experience in analysing, designing, operating, or maintaining assets
- Strong time management and prioritisation skills
- Effective cross-functional stakeholder engagement

- Excellent written and verbal communication
Knowledge & Qualifications
Technical Expertise:
- Understanding of operational processes in the water industry
- Familiarity with statutory requirements and risk resolution
Essential
- ONC/OND in process operations or equivalent industry experience
Desirable
- Experience working within Asset Reliability
- Experience working within an operations or process field in a transferable industry (Utilities, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical, Food etc.)
- Engineering degree
- Scientific degree
- Membership of a professional institution
- NEBOSH/ IOSH H&S qualifications
