About the role:

At bp, we’re reimagining how trading technology unlocks value and supports real-time decision-making in a fast-changing energy landscape. As Lead Solution Architect (Gas & Power Trading), you’ll shape the architecture of our next-generation trading platform—modern, scalable, and built for global commodity markets.

What you will do:

Lead end-to-end architecture for bespoke energy trading solutions.
Partner with traders, product owners, market experts, engineers, and vendors to align business ambition with technical delivery.
Modernise the platform using cloud-native principles and contemporary patterns (microservices, messaging, caching, containers).
Redesign and connect capabilities across front-, middle-, and back-office workflows (deal capture → optimisation → reporting).
Guide delivery through design reviews, architectural decisions, and operational readiness (Agile, DevOps, CI/CD).

What you will need (required)

Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or similar.
Deep experience in physical Gas and/or Power trading including optionality, optimisation, scheduling, and full trade lifecycle.

Strong knowledge of options modelling and dependency graph concepts.

Hands-on experience designing modern trading systems.

Architecture & engineering skills

Cloud & engineering: AWS (preferred), C# or Java, Kubernetes/Docker/OpenShift, Terraform; React familiarity is a plus.

Integration: real-time messaging (e.g., AMQ), API design (JSON/Swagger), batch processing.

Data: transactional + analytical modelling, reconciliation, real-time reporting, distributed caching, MongoDB (or similar).

DevOps & ops: CI/CD, Git workflows, automation tools (e.g., Ansible), scalable/grid-compute approaches.

Good to have :

Technical: microservices + containerisation | cloud hosting (AWS preferred) | messaging & caching
Functional: full lifecycle understanding of physical Gas/Power trading
