The Role:
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Learning & Development Advisor, who will also serve as the AmcoGiffen L&D Academy Lead for specialist skills academies across England, Scotland, and Wales.
The primary focus of this role is to design, deliver, and evaluate internal training programmes that enhance workforce capability, ensure compliance, and support the strategic objectives within the UK construction and rail infrastructure sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
Training Design
- Collaborate with operational leaders, project managers, and safety teams to conduct training needs analyses.
- Identify skills gaps to develop targeted learning solutions.
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and client requirements to ensure training remains current and compliant.
- Design and update industry-specific training programmes aligned with standards such as Network Rail, RISQS, and CSCS.
- Develop structured learning pathways for technical, safety-critical, and behavioural competencies.
- Create engaging training materials tailored to site-based, technical, and safety-sensitive roles.
- Ensure content complies with health & safety legislation, CDM regulations, and industry best practices.
Training Delivery
- Facilitate engaging and interactive training sessions across multiple UK sites, including construction sites, depots, and offices, employing methods such as toolbox talks, workshops, and e-learning.
- Deliver inductions, technical training, behavioural safety programmes, academy initiatives, and leadership development sessions.
- Adapt training delivery to operational constraints and shift patterns.
Evaluation and Continuous Improvement
- Assess training effectiveness through feedback, performance metrics, and compliance audits.
- Continuously refine learning interventions based on site feedback, incident reports, and regulatory updates.
- Report on training outcomes and return on investment to senior stakeholders and project teams.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with project teams, SHEQ departments, and external training providers.
- Support line managers in embedding learning into daily operations and project delivery.
- Represent L&D in client meetings and audits focusing on training compliance.
Promoting Learning Culture and Innovation
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development at all levels.
- Utilise digital tools (e.g., LMS, mobile learning apps) to support remote and on-site learning.
- Keep abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and innovations in construction and rail training.
- Pilot and implement innovative training programmes aligned with future skills, knowledge, and behavioural needs.
Coordinate and Deliver STEM Events
- Partner with the L&D team and STEM ambassadors to deliver meaningful training support across the organisation and educational institutions.
System Data & Analytics
- Maintain accurate records across company systems and reporting platforms.
What You’ll Need:
Essential:
- Strong facilitation and communication skills within operational environments
- Instructional design expertise, particularly in safety and technical training
- Proficiency with learning technologies, digital content creation, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
- Analytical mindset to evaluate training impact and compliance
- Willingness to travel regularly across the UK, including overnight stays, based on project & training needs
- Full UK Driving Licence and flexibility to travel as required
Desirable:
- Knowledge of UK construction and rail industry standards and frameworks
- Relevant L&D qualifications (e.g., CIPD Level 5)
- Experience in a similar role within construction or rail infrastructure sectors
- Familiarity with industry accreditation schemes (e.g., Sentinel, PTS, CSCS, SSSTS/SMSTS)
