My client a boutique City law firm are currently seeking an experienced Legal Cashier to join their dynamic team. This role involves managing daily banking functions and accounting transactions, ensuring the smooth financial operations of our legal firm. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in legal cashiering, with excellent reconciliation and bookkeeping skills.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Undertake daily banking functions including the processing of client and office accounting transactions.
- Prepare and process cheques and bank transfers.
- Post client to office and office to client transactions.
- Handle the processing of disbursements to office and matter ledgers.
- Reconcile credit card disbursements and perform bank reconciliations.
- Manage purchase ledger processing and electronic filing.
- Conduct monthly billing at least twice monthly and resolve residual balances.
- Provide daily updates to the New York office regarding cash received.
- Collaborate monthly with the New York team to review Alpha reports and ensure clarity on the financial status of each matter.
- Assist with month-end closing activities.
- Address any queries promptly and escalate them as necessary.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- At least 3-5 years’ experience in a legal cashier role.
- Strong knowledge of bank reconciliation and bookkeeping.
- Familiarity with residual balances and SRA rules.
- Experience with Linetime or similar legal software is desirable.
- Proficient in purchase ledger processes.
- Understanding of billing processes and what to check when producing bills.
- Experience of working with international offices.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with an excellent telephone manner.
- Enthusiastic, flexible, and proactive approach to work.
- Ability to work independently and prioritise effectively.
- High-quality client care and service skills.
- Strong written and communication skills.
- Computer literacy, particularly in MS Office.
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain calm under pressure.
- Demonstrated outstanding work ethic.
Please note the role will be fully in the office for the first 6 months then it will be one day from home and 4 days in the office
