Group Legal Compliance Counsel
This position is a 12 month contract.
Location; Ardagh Group’s UK, Ireland or Netherlands offices.
As member of Group Legal & Compliance to ensure the ongoing success of the compliance function and provide prompt delivery of accurate legal advice in relation to legal compliance matters
Key responsibilities
- To work with Group Compliance Director and the other members of Group Legal & Compliance to ensure overall compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements for the entire Group.
- To provide legal advice to the business in relation to compliance matters, including bribery and corruption, sanctions, human rights/social sustainability and conflicts of interest, and to work as a team to continue to develop, implement and monitor Ardagh’s compliance programme throughout the global business, including through development and delivery of training.
- To work with the team to deliver improvement projects.
- To review, maintain and keep up to date all required compliance logs, registers and reports in relation to the global business.
- To conduct the required due diligence and checks on third parties, as well as respond to due diligence requests from third parties, and advise the business accordingly on compliance requirements.
- To advise on and draft the compliance elements in various commercial contracts across the business globally.
Most important result areas
- Assisting the Group Compliance Director to promote and maintain a culture of compliance, including assisting in implementing and ensuring continuous improvement of the Group’s Code of Conduct and the associated policies.
- Continual development and management of the Group’s compliance programme, including risk assessments, monitoring and audit of compliance KRIs, investigation and management of compliance matters/concerns in relation to all compliance areas, including compliance hotline cases and fraud matters, developing and updating legal compliance policies and procedures, and providing training/updates to relevant sections of the business as required.
- Continuous control of the costs for the legal function/external counsels and continuous improvement of the quality of the legal advice rendered by Group Legal & Compliance.
Nature and size of the job area
- The job requires someone with compliance related experience who can provide legal advice in various jurisdictions on such laws. In addition, the position requires a good understanding of regulatory/administrative investigations.
The position in its organizational context
- The position reports to the Group Compliance Director.
- Three other positions report to the Group Compliance Director.

- Continuous control of the overall costs for the legal function.
- Satisfaction of the colleagues with the quality and time for the rendered legal advice.

Flexibility and decision making
- On general compliance matters, the position coordinates with the involved departments and the Group Compliance Director. The position develops proposals on the ongoing development and implementation of Ardagh’s compliance programme.
Education/ Training
Experience
- At least 5 years of professional work experience in an international environment;
Competencies
- An interest in compliance and a capacity to adapt quickly to new fields of law/jurisdictions.
- Good knowledge of at least one area of compliance laws, such as anti-bribery laws, competition laws, data privacy laws, sanctions laws.
- Fluent in English; additional languages skills are a distinct plus.
- Strong intercultural competences to interact with a team of lawyers of different jurisdictions
- Strong communication skills to interact with commercial and operational teams.
