Office Attendance - Our roles are hybrid, however you should be able to travel to either our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices up to 3 days per week for this position (at least 1 of those days is required to be in the Edinburgh office)

A bank with a little more heart: We’re looking for a commercially-minded, solutions-orientated Legal Counsel to join our Legal team on a 12 month fixed term contract at Tesco Bank, part of Barclays Bank UK Plc.
Our Legal Team enjoys the privilege of overseeing all aspects of the Tesco Bank business and acting as strategic advisors to stakeholders. This role would be ideal for a commercial contracts lawyer who either has financial services expertise or is looking to develop this.
What you’ll be doing: Role
In the role of Legal Counsel you identify and manage legal risk in delivering targeted, commercially-focused legal advice on corporate, commercial and regulatory legal matters across Tesco Bank, including:
- negotiating and advising upon third party service, data and software contracts
- advising on general commercial and regulatory legal queries
- supporting the integration of the Tesco Bank business with the wider Barclays business
We need you to have: - Qualified solicitor with valid practising certificate in a UK jurisdiction (practising certificates in relevant overseas jurisdictions may be considered)
- Significant commercial legal experience either in-house or in private practice
- Track record of delivering pragmatic, risk-based legal advice
- Experience of strong relationship management (both internal and external stakeholders)
And if you have any of these, even better: - Experience in the finance or technology sectors would be advantageous and desirable
- Experience in the retail financial services sector would be desirable
