Job Description
Role Summary:
The Legal Counsel will work closely with all areas of the business and take a consultative and collaborative approach to solving complex issues. You will lead across legal workstreams on a diverse range of transmission projects, including advising on investment, corporate, construction and operational issues, as well as supporting other commercial departments with legal issues related to Transmission Investment’s day-to-day functions where necessary.

Founded in 2011, Transmission Investment manages one of the largest offshore electricity transmission portfolios globally, connecting over 4,000MW of offshore wind from eleven GB wind farms. Our team of over 40 experts specialises in project development, engineering, regulation, construction, asset management, finance, and mergers & acquisitions.
In addition to the development of the 700MW interconnector (LirIC) between Northern Ireland and Scotland, we are currently managing a synchronous compensator at Blackhillock, Scotland. We also aim to participate in competitive onshore transmission auctions (CATO).
In April 2025, TAQA Transmission, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA) acquired 100% of Transmission Investment. TAQA is one of the largest integrated utilities companies in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and TAQA Transmission is the TAQA subsidiary responsible for the development and operation of TAQA’s high voltage power and bulk water transmission infrastructure.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
General Support
- Advising and manage external legal counsel assisting with providing advice on legal issues;
- Providing legal advice to project teams throughout the lifecycle of infrastructure and energy projects, including renewables, utilities, and construction.
- Supporting with site acquisition, planning, permitting processes and real estate agreements.
- Advising on regulatory, environmental, and consenting obligations relevant to project delivery and ongoing operations.
- Supporting project teams with the structuring of joint ventures, partnerships, and collaborations.
- Providing legal input on project finance matters, including coordination with lenders, financial advisors, and internal stakeholders;
- Monitoring changes in laws and regulations relevant to the company’s operations and advising on necessary adjustments;
- Supporting data protection, sanctions and other compliance initiatives;
- Liaising with our shareholder’s legal function to ensure compliance with the wider group’s compliance and legal requirements and best practice.
Commercial Contracting
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial and project-related agreements, including:
- Frameworks, procurement agreements, and consultant appointments;
- NDAs, MOUs, and heads of terms;
- Overseeing the appointment and work of external counsel on project-specific agreements, including:
- EPC contracts and O&M agreements;
- Power Purchase Agreements;
- Managing contract execution processes to ensure that contracts are robust and accurately reflect the intended risk allocation as negotiated between the company and counterparties;
- Supporting the negotiation and review of finance-related documentation such as loan agreements, direct agreements, and security packages.
Risk Management and Governance
- Advising on legal risk, compliance, and company obligations under contract and law;
- Providing input into internal policies and governance processes to ensure legal best practice;
- Supporting with corporate governance activities and company secretarial matters;
- Supporting the development and delivery of internal legal training as needed.
Employment and Labour Law
- Advising on employment contracts, disputes, and internal investigations;
- Supporting HR with legal aspects of employee relations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
Disputes and External Legal Management
- Advising on claims, disputes, and contentious matters (including construction disputes and payment issues);
- Managing and liaise with external legal advisers on specialist or high-risk matters;
- Controlling legal spend by managing scope, quality, and budget of external legal work.

Language:
Education, Work Experience & Qualifications:
- Qualified solicitor in England and Wales or Scotland (or equivalent jurisdiction).
- 4+ years’ post-qualification experience (PQE), ideally gained in a combination of private practice and in-house roles.
- Strong background in energy, infrastructure, or construction law, including experience with project development and commercial contracts.
- Familiarity with standard form construction contracts such as NEC, FIDIC, JCT, or IChemE is highly desirable.
- Experience advising on the legal aspects of project structuring, delivery, disputes/claims management and stakeholder relationships.
