Legal Counsel
Location: Wembley Stadium, London
Contract: Fixed-term | ASAP – Summer 2028
Where law meets one of the world’s biggest sporting events.
UK & Ireland 2028 Limited is the local organising committee responsible for planning and delivering UEFA EURO 2028 across the UK & Ireland. Working on behalf of the five Football Associations, we partner closely with governments, host cities, stadiums and communities to deliver a tournament that is safe, inclusive and world-class.
This is a rare opportunity to play a hands-on legal role in the delivery of a major international event, supporting complex commercial activity, public funding arrangements and multi-partner delivery at national scale.
The Role
As Legal Counsel, you will provide proactive, practical legal support across the full breadth of UK & Ireland 2028 Limited’s activities. From commercial contracting and venue agreements through to governance, compliance and stakeholder engagement, this role sits at the heart of tournament delivery.
You’ll work closely with internal teams, delivery partners and external advisers, helping the organisation navigate complexity with clarity, confidence and sound judgement.
This is a role for someone who enjoys variety, pace and responsibility — and who takes pride in enabling others to deliver excellence.
What you’ll be doing
• Provide clear, pragmatic legal advice across UKI2028’s operations and projects.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including event staging, venue hire, supply and services agreements, and government funding arrangements.
• Support compliance with hosting obligations, funding conditions and organisational policies.
• Provide governance support to the Board, committees and stakeholder groups.
• Build strong working relationships with partners including stadiums, host cities, governments and UEFA.
• Instruct and manage external legal advisers where required.
• Adapt quickly to changing priorities in a fast-moving delivery environment.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a solicitor who combines strong technical capability with a practical, collaborative approach.
You’ll bring:
• Qualification to practise as a solicitor in at least one UK or Ireland jurisdiction.
• Commercial legal experience, gained in private practice and/or an in-house environment.
• Confidence drafting and negotiating contracts and advising on risk in complex settings.
• The ability to communicate clearly with non-legal colleagues and senior stakeholders.
• Sound judgement, organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Experience in sport, events or large-scale programmes is helpful but not essential. We welcome candidates from a range of sectors who can demonstrate transferable legal experience and a genuine interest in working on a major event.
Values & Behaviours
Embrace the Opportunity
• Creates strategic space for innovation.
• Role models adaptability in response to uncertainty.
Achieve Excellence
• Monitors performance and ensures continuous improvement.
• Aligns team activity to wider organisational goals
Thrive Together
• Influences cross-functional relationships positively.
• Champions diversity and inclusive leadership.
Why apply?
We offer a competitive salary (plus benefits of 25 days holiday, contributory pension, Private Medical Insurance etc), which coupled with the opportunity to be part of one of the biggest sporting events to ever take place across UK & Ireland we think makes for an exciting place to be!
Where is the role based?
Our head office is based at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London, however, depending on your role, you may be required to travel across the UK and Ireland to our 9 Stadiums and 8 Host Cities, with some roles being based in those locations.
Because we are an event delivery organisation, time together in person is essential for effective planning and collaboration.
• In 2026, most colleagues work at least three days a week from Wembley.
• In 2027, this will increase to 3–4 days a week as operations intensify.
• In 2028, during tournament delivery, full-time onsite working will be required.
Everyone is welcome
