We’re working in partnership with a prestigious global law firm, currently seeking a Talent Development Manager to join their Global Corporate Practice in their London office.
This is a high-impact role, central to delivering timely, strategic support that promotes the professional and personal development of lawyers within the Global Corporate team and the wider firm.
You’ll be fully embedded within the Global Corporate practice group, collaborating directly with partners, associates, and trainees. In addition, you'll work alongside other London-based Talent Development Managers and maintain strong connections with the broader Talent Development team in New York.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a deep understanding of the practice group(s), including the nature of their work, key people, deal flow, and client base.
- Collaborate closely with partners to:
- Coordinate the allocation of work across counsel, associates, and trainees, balancing departmental workload with individual development needs and capacity.
- Plan and manage annual leave and study leave, ensuring deals are properly resourced while enabling lawyers to take breaks as needed.
- Monitor workloads and assist with resource management, reviewing financial analytics and team structure to optimise utilisation, team balance, and leverage.
- Support and oversee the performance review process, ensuring timely completion of interim and annual appraisals for counsel, associates, and trainees.
- Gain comprehensive insight into the associates, counsel, and trainees within the group, including their strengths, areas of expertise, career development goals, and overall performance.
- Work with external training providers to create and deliver bespoke team training and development initiatives.
Requirements:
- A minimum of five years’ experience as a practising lawyer, preferably within Corporate or another transactional practice area.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the confidence to influence stakeholders at all levels and build effective professional relationships through personal credibility.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with a demonstrated ability to listen actively and engage thoughtfully.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines effectively.
