- Safety Competence : Hold relevant track safety competences, such as Personal Track Safety and Individual Working Alone.

Who are we looking for?
We're seeking dedicated and proactive individuals who are passionate about ensuring the safety and efficiency of our level crossings. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You should be adept at identifying potential hazards, developing innovative solutions, and managing relationships with various stakeholders. A strong commitment to safety and continuous professional development is essential.
About The Role (External)
What will you be doing? Every day will be different, but you can expect to be involved in the following activities:
As a Level Crossing Manager, you'll be diving into both quantitative and qualitative risk assessments, making sure everything meets the relevant standards. You'll figure out the best ways to mitigate risks and back it up with cost-benefit analysis. Your day-to-day will include inspecting level crossings, handling faults, and maintaining everything in top shape. Plus, you'll keep accurate records of all the work done.
You'll also review planning applications that might affect level crossings and arrange for the necessary legal orders for modernisation, renewal, or changes. Part of your job will be to identify and push for closures or other control measures to keep risks as low as possible.
You'll lead the operational side of renewal, modernisation, or closure projects, making sure they fit into the business plan and consider all operating requirements and risk factors. Keeping records up-to-date and supporting route safety meetings will also be part of your role.
Safety is key, so you'll follow all safe work procedures and company policies. You'll manage vehicles, tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring they're fit for use and properly stored or disposed of. Lastly, you'll be the go-to person for level crossing issues in your area, working with local representatives and external stakeholders.
Essential Criteria:
- In-depth Knowledge: A solid understanding of ORR Principles and Guidance related to level crossings, including the procedures for obtaining Level Crossing Approval Orders.
- Risk Assessment Expertise: Proficiency in both quantified and qualitative risk assessment tools and techniques.
- Communication Pro: Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
- Report Writing Mastery: Proven experience in preparing concise, comprehensive, and informative reports.
- Influencing Skills: Demonstrable ability to influence and persuade stakeholders effectively.
- Driving Capability: Willingness and ability to drive vehicles as required by business needs.
Desirable Criteria:
- Professional Qualifications: A recognized qualification in risk or health and safety.
- Institution Membership: Membership in the Institution of Railway Operators.
- Relevant Experience: Previous experience in an operating, engineering, station, or safety environment.
- Human Factors Insight: Good knowledge of human factors and public interface risks at level crossings.
