The Lock-Up Manager is responsible for overseeing the business' lock-up (work-in-progress and debtor balances) to ensure efficient billing, timely collections, and improved working capital. This role works closely with partners, fee earners, and finance colleagues to monitor performance, provide insights, and drive initiatives that reduce lock-up days and enhance cash flow across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Take the lead in monitoring lock-up performance (WIP and debtors) across all teams, making sure everything aligns with the firm’s financial goals
  • Work closely with senior leaders to keep billing timely and accurate—helping boost revenue and keep clients happy
  • Working closely with our Credit Control team to further improve and solidify the collections processes that help recover debts faster / improve cash flow and reduce financial risk
  • Investigate lock-up trends and suggest ways to improve cash flow and make operations run more smoothly
  • Share clear, impactful insights with senior leadership to support smart, data-driven decisions
  • Support audit readiness and compliance through proactive management of billing and collections documentation

What will help you succeed in this role?

Essential

  • Previous Lock Up management experience within a Law Firm
  • Proven track record in managing lock-up, billing, or credit control
  • Strong financial analysis and reporting skills
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Commercially minded with a focus on improving cash flow and profitability
  • Detail oriented approach with significant emphasis on achieving a high quality of work
  • Previous experience in law firm finance, professional services, or a partnership environment
  • Strong understanding of WIP management, billing cycles, and debtor collection
  • Experience with financial reporting and performance improvement initiatives

Desirable

  • Advanced Excel and financial systems knowledge is desirable
  • Accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) desirable but not essential
