Medical or Clinical Oncology Locum Consultant required, we are open to all areas of expertise.
The hospital is a designated Cancer Centre providing Specialist Services for patients living with cancer. Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust provides a fully integrated and comprehensive service for the treatment, care and support of cancer patients.
The oncology centre contains an outpatient department with nine consulting suites with attached examination rooms, two additional clinical rooms and a counselling room. There is a full team of sup-porting staff including nurses, radiographers, administration, clerical and secretarial staff. The Trust uses the Chemocare electronic chemotherapy prescribing system.
The appointee will have access to clerical support in line with other consultants. Day case chemotherapy is administered in the outpatient setting by trained chemotherapy nurses in the chemotherapy suite. This has recently been completely redeveloped to provide a better environment for our patients whilst receiving their outpatient treatments. This has allowed us to increase capacity to a maximum of 20 chairs. This is anticipating the increase of systemic therapies for patients over the coming years. Ambulatory home chemotherapy is available and there is a nurse led PICC line service.
Initially, the job plan is 10 PAs and includes 8.50 of Direct Clinical Care, 1.50 of SPA and
1 in 10 On Call (rota)
The successful candidate will be required to undertake managerial duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of their Clinical Department.
They will have an understanding of the wider health agenda and modern NHS. The successful candidate will be required to work in a multidisciplinary team and supervise juniors.
Education of undergraduate and postgraduate trainees and other health care professionals is part of the consultant role. Opportunities exist to expand on this educational role. Office space, computer access and secretarial support will be made available
