Job Overview

We are pleased to be offering the opportunity for two current LUHFT Assistant Practitioners/Therapy Assistants to undertake a Physiotherapy Degree Apprenticeship. The course is being hosted by The University of Salford and will run over a 4-year period commencing in September 2025.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills required of a Physiotherapist within a supportive environment

There will be a blended/flexible approach to learning including University teaching sessions, on the job learning, off the job learning and a variety of practice placement experiences. You will have a Work-Based Learning Mentor and a University Learning Coach to help support with your development throughout the course.

The apprentices will be hosted by the following teams -

  • Aintree MSK
  • Royal Inpatients

Salary is generated based on agenda for change Annex 21 terms and conditions:

Year 1 60% of top of Band 5 salary

Year 2 65% of top of Band 5 salary

Year 3 70% of top of Band 5 salary

Year 4 75% of top of Band 5 salary

Continuous salary will be protected if higher than Annex 21.

Main duties of the job

During the 4 years of training you will be supported in developing the knowledge and skills to undertake assessments and formulate/carry out treatment plans for a variety of patient groups.

You will develop clinical reasoning skills and the use of evidence-based practice, as well as the ability to risk assess to ensure patient safety. You will utilise a problem-solving approach and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver quality patient care.

As an evolving clinician you will work alongside patients and their families supporting shared decision making and facilitating safe and appropriate transfer of care to wider health and social care services.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

During your training you will be supported to gain the following proficiencies:

To undertake Physiotherapy assessment, clinically diagnose, implement treatment plans and evaluate care delivery according to health care needs for routine patients.

To undertake Physiotherapy assessment, clinically diagnose, implement treatment plans and evaluate care delivery according to health care needs for complex patients with the support of the Senior Therapists within the team.

To liaise regularly with Senior colleagues regarding management of caseload, treatment progression and on-going care.

To participate in departmental planned out of hours working and the Emergency On-Call Rota.

To participate in multi-disciplinary working and take an active part in MDT meetings.

To participate in teaching and advice-giving sessions with patients, carers and other Health Care Professionals to ensure best provision of patient care.

To ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all Health Care Professionals about all aspects of patient care. This will include patients who will have difficulties in understanding and communication.

To comply with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy standards and rules of professional conduct.

To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with Trust and Departmental Standards of Practice.

To ensure treatments offered to patients are based on best available clinical evidence.

To comply with the Data Protection Act and Caldicott recommendations.

To participate in Clinical Audit as appropriate in each speciality area under the supervision of a Senior Therapist.

To identify clinical risk within own patient case-load and liaise with Senior Therapist for appropriate support.

To undertake regular training and mentoring sessions with Senior staff to monitor and develop clinical and professional skills.

To plan, manage and evaluate aspects of own work as agreed with Senior staff and Managers.
