HPC Site Engineering – JDO R&A Branch – I&C and Comissioning Scope
The Joint Design O?ce (JDO) has been created to reinforce the HPC site-based engineering to quickly respond to engineering queries and problems coming from site construction, to deliver the schedule and to deliver an increased scope of work. A primary bene?t of this organisation is to save time for construction on site by having reactive answers and solutions to pursue their activities.
Vacancy Overview
Reporting to an Engineering Lead within the Review & Acceptance Branch of the JDO, the post-holder will be an I&C or electrical Engineer, contributing to the review and acceptance of engineering queries raised by the site DMIC (Design, Manufacture, Install and commission) Contractor on the I&C scope across the CI/BOP and Nuclear Island buildings.
Particularly, the post holder will support I&C changes Review and Acceptance during the commissioning phases of the Unit 2 Polar Crane, the Demin Water production Plant, the auxiliary transformer, and support hydrotests of key Turbine Hall components.
The role will be focused on the I&C discipline but will be interfaced with other disciplines and with several parties, such the site Contractors (composed of main suppliers and sub-suppliers), Construction teams, Quality teams, Project Management teams, or Design teams (embedded within the JDO organisation on site, or in back office).
Key Responsibilities
– Responding to General Queries, Non-Conformances, Change Request, and Exemption Requests originating from the DMIC Contractors on site, with the support of the Responsible Designer or site Experts when needed.
– Provide adequate oversight to ensure the Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements are met.
– Challenge design decisions so that engineering and design aligns with the project strategy.
– Assist in co-ordinating support from other external organisations.
– Contribute to the resolution and closure of Open Points.
– Assess technical risk and subsequently address this risk.
– Maintain a strong relationship with EPR Engineering (Responsible Designer)
– Report operationally to an Engineering Lead.
The Skills
– Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
– Experience in I&C design, installation and/or commissioning.
– Experience applying multi-disciplinary technical knowledge within the nuclear industry.
– Knowledge of the construction / installation industry.
– Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
– Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly those in a site environment.
– Ability to work independently, be pro-active, report on and escalate relevant issues.
