Lead Maintenance Reliability Engineer


Location: Woking Area

Type: Full-Time, Permanent (On-site)

Salary: £41k - £51k plus 7.5% bonus


We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Maintenance Reliability Engineer to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our critical equipment and utilities at our state-of-the-art manufacturing site. This pivotal role offers the chance to lead impactful reliability initiatives, enhance operational efficiency, and collaborate with cross-functional teams in a GMP and biosafety-regulated environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Implementation: Develop, document, and implement scalable, efficient, and robust processes to enhance the reliability of equipment and utilities across the site.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Create and manage proactive maintenance programmes to prevent downtime, extend equipment life, and maintain compliance.
  • Monitoring & Incident Management: Establish and maintain monitoring systems to track equipment performance, respond rapidly to incidents, and minimise operational disruptions.
  • Performance Optimisation: Conduct in-depth data analysis, identify process inefficiencies, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance throughput and reduce waste.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Lead investigations into recurring failures, complete detailed RCA reports, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) to avoid reoccurrence.
  • Automation: Identify opportunities to automate manual, repetitive tasks to improve accuracy, reduce operator burden, and increase process reliability.
  • Compliance & Quality: Ensure all work meets biosafety, GMP, and regulatory requirements; manage deviations and change controls as needed.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with HSE, Biosafety, Quality Assurance, Production, and Maintenance teams to ensure smooth integration of reliability initiatives into daily operations.
  • Safety & Risk Management: Conduct risk assessments, contribute to safety reviews, and ensure all safety incidents are reported, investigated, and closed out effectively.


What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: 5+ years in Site Reliability Engineering or related engineering role, ideally in biosafety/GMP environments.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in lean six sigma principles and process optimisation.
  • Problem-Solving: Skilled in root cause analysis with a track record of delivering operational improvements.
  • Communication: Excellent collaborator and clear communicator with the ability to influence across teams.
  • Education: Formal engineering-related qualification.
