Job Purpose
To source effectively maintenance related parts and services in order to provide exceptional customer experiences for our operational teams using your knowledge of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment.
Responsible for delivery against identified maintenance and commercial KPI’s to meet the wider strategic requirements of the business.
To ensure UU has a work order cycle time as low as practically possible whilst improving asset availability and reliability at the lowest whole life cost to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our Water, Wastewater, Bioresources and Wastewater Network asset base.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- “Triage” of initial work requests to ensure correct process has been followed and that work requests follow the correct sourcing route
- Manage sourcing activity coordination and processes relating to asset repairs or replacements including supplier selection, capability assessment, quality improvement, and supplier readiness using knowledge and skills of mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment.
- Act as a technical liaison between suppliers, engineers and operational managers
- Develop and implement a continuous improvement culture with our suppliers in order to reduce repair cycle times whilst ensuring precision engineering techniques are being used on our assets
- Manage the performance of suppliers; including health and safety, cost evaluation, quality, and repair cycle times
- Strong communication skills required in order to liaise with internal departments and external suppliers regarding technical work information and commercial compliance
- To build strong working relationships with teams across the business, including work management, asset management, field teams, inventory, purchasing and commercial to ensure collaborative working that delivers a reliability framework and ultimately drives business performance towards our corporate aims and objectives
- Build alignment for organisational and behavioural changes in order to create and sustain a Reliability culture across UU in line with the Maintenance Reliability Strategy and Systems Thinking capabilities
- Work with Inventory to ensure correct BoMs for critical assets and that all parts have unique reference number in our CMMS
- To review, strip and inspect reports and understanding root cause of failures. This understanding needs to be translated into areas of improvement in our PM, PdM, Asset Reliability and Inventory strategies and fed through the analysis process
- To provide standardised data and analytics across Maintenance Sourcing that feed into performance reports, risks and issues, contractor performance and lessons learnt to aid continuous improvement
- To carry out work assurance across the approved contractors to ensure the highest standards of safety behaviour and that they have the correct capabilities, training and tools to deliver an effective maintenance service to UU
Technical Skills & Experience
- Qualified to a minimum of either City and Guilds, ONC or Level 3 Diploma in Engineering with relevant engineering experience on mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment gained in an operational environment
- Strong engineering competence developed in an operational role working on water industry assets including on mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment
- Procurement experience within any engineering company
- A good understanding of the lifecycle of a work order and how work orders should be generated and completed including the effect on financial settlement
- Experience of maintenance stock management including the identification of critical spares, stock holding and effective logistics to support maintenance delivery
- Good understanding of operations and maintenance strategies and preferably have some production line experience and the ability to react to keep production moving
- A good understanding of the basics of Asset Management including costs to maintain, monitoring, maintenance routines etc. and an understanding of the process of asset registration/de-registration
- Demonstrable focus on customer requirements and innovative approach to enhancing operational working practices
- Well-developed analytical skills and a proven track record in identifying issues and driving through solutions to a wide range of technical issues relating to effective maintenance
- Proven communication (verbal and written) and influencing skills at all levels within the organisation translating company goals into day to day objectives
- Resilient, tenacious and personally driven to overcome operational obstacles with a proven ability to manage conflicting operational issues
- Ability to build collaborative relations with operational staff, other departments and key stakeholders such as framework contractors
- Strong understanding of FMEA. Able to review failure code data and translate into suggested corrective actions in order to drive defect elimination across the business
