The team
The Market Data Services team is a specialist data content and commercial management function which provides industry-leading guidance and support for the acquisition, provisioning and governance of financial data to all areas of the firm globally. Our mandate is to ensure we operate best practice standards in the maintenance and supply of Market Data. With a diverse user-base comes immensely varied requirements for data and we support these needs by utilising the subject matter expertise and financial knowledge that our team is expected to demonstrate.
What You’ll Do
The role of Market Data Analyst requires a good knowledge of Market Data operations with specific relevance to activities within an asset management company. As part of the Commercial Management Team, you will be required to undertake demand challenges with vendors as well as internal business groups to ensure effective cost-control, identification of saving opportunities and the consolidation/ rationalisation of products within our supply chain.
As Market Data Analyst with focus on Indices, you will need to have a broad level of experience to assist in an index licensing capacity. The role expects a strong background in the procurement of Index data, covering the key providers, their commercial policies, usage rights and associated challenges. Previous knowledge around how a buy-side asset manager benefits from its use would also be beneficial.
The role will involve a diverse range of daily team support activities and responsibilities. You will identify key stakeholders to determine business requirements, and you will be required to support the business by reviewing draft contracts and negotiating the commercials with our service providers. The function will simultaneously need to provide suitable compliance oversight to ensure adherence to vendor terms and conditions. This will require significant interaction with internal groups to educate and manage operating behaviours.
Key Workflows For This Function Within Market Data Include
- Global engagement for vendor management in-line with the firm’s ongoing needs
- Facilitation of BAU requests for services through demand management
- Entitlements and user permissioning
- Product utilisations with users and providers
- Contract pipeline management
- Responsible for vendor reporting and declaration requirements
- Monthly processes – month-end checks, inventory preparation, MI generation and reporting
- Commercial oversight for contractual obligations around subscriptions and usage
- Efficiency based optimisation of user needs and vendor services
- Represent Market Data within Project groups where appropriate
- Engagement with business requestors on new requirements and existing renewals
This will include the daily monitoring of our market data request queue, producing reporting/monthly metrics, cost savings and demand management, to managing key Vendor and Business Relationships
Key Responsibilities For The Market Data Analyst Role Include
- Support the contract renewals process through pipeline tracking via our ‘High/Low’ and ‘Front to Back’ commercial processes.
- Engagement with the standard BAU process of ordering data, with an additional split focus on handling Index requests via our process for indices.
- Daily monitoring of our market data request queue (via Techlink) and assigning to the relevant Commercial Managers. Also handling those deemed more BAU type requests.
- Management of contractual renewal pipeline and maintaining a lens on cost rationalisation and demand management at all times.
- Business Relationship management and Vendor liaison, as an owner of the commercial relationships with our providers.
- Support for service enablements and escalation point for service and vendor issues.
- Advising potential & existing users and stakeholders about vendor policies and market data license restrictions.
- Monitoring of application data consumption.
- Inventory updates and related admin where necessary, including the operation of contract alarms.
- Weekly monitoring of the HR Leaver process and either cancelling or reassigning services where possible.
The Knowledge, Experience And Qualifications You Need
- A proven track record in Market Data is preferred, ideally with experience in Market Data commercials, negotiations and compliance awareness.
- A strong working knowledge around procurement of Index data is preferred. This needs to include its use, how it is commercially packaged by the key providers, their commercial policies, usage rights and associated challenges.
- Experience of working with vendors at both a strategic and tactical level, including Bloomberg, Factset, LSEG, S&P, FTSE and MSCI.
- Awareness around Regulatory change impacts, particularly in the Index space.
- Experience of market data systems such as FITS/Optimize, DART, DACS would be beneficial.
- Excellent communication and relationship skills.
- Attention to detail and a flexible attitude.
- Able to work to tight deadlines, particularly in relation to diarised processes.
- Strong MS-Office skills, especially Excel.
