The post holder will work with the Tobacco Dependency Lead Midwife and other team members to provide individualised stop smoking support to pregnant people and families in a flexible and innovative way. This post will contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting people to stop smoking. It focuses on engaging with people in communities and offering them practical support to change their behaviour to achieve their own goals. The post holder will play a key role in the collecting, collating and documenting of smokefree pregnancy data.
The above summary indicates the main duties of the post which may be reviewed in the light of experience and developments within the service. Any review will be undertaken in conjunction with the post holder. The post holder will be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as directed.
- Work with the Tobacco Dependency Lead Midwife to deliver stop smoking support, undertake delivery of the Smokefree Pregnancy Incentive Scheme with those women who meet the criteria, along with the completion of administration related to smokefree pregnancy data collection and collation.
- Provide intermediate stop smoking support throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period, using the support of interventions such as Carbon monoxide (CO) monitoring and Nicotine Replacement therapy.
- Work with indirect and minimal supervision from the Tobacco Dependency Lead Midwife, operating at all times within the assessed level of competence. Clear professional boundaries and limitations will be discussed and monitored by the Specialist Midwife.
