The Role
As a Mechanical Construction Manager, you will take responsibility for managing mechanical installation works on large-scale projects in the Northampton region. Reporting to the Contracts Manager, you will lead the on-site team, coordinate subcontractors, and ensure the safe, timely, and high-quality delivery of mechanical systems to budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all on-site mechanical construction activities, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and quality standards.
- Prepare and review method statements, risk assessments, and ensure project documentation meets company procedures.
- Coordinate mechanical services installation and commissioning in line with the project programme.
- Manage subcontractors and ensure materials, plant, and labour are in place to meet schedule requirements.
- Monitor and report on progress, identify risks, and implement solutions to maintain timelines.
- Conduct regular site meetings with clients, main contractors, and internal teams.
- Ensure installations are ready for commissioning and manage the commissioning process to avoid delays.
- Support financial management by tracking variations, assisting with valuations, and ensuring projects meet budgeted profit levels.
- Maintain site diaries, produce weekly progress reports, and uphold excellent site housekeeping standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong mechanical background with experience in large-scale projects (M&E combined experience an advantage).
- Proven ability to manage construction and commissioning of systems such as LPHW, CHW, ventilation, plantroom installations, and lab gases.
- Understanding of mechanical controls, ventilation, and plumbing/pipework systems.
- Knowledge of CAD interpretation; familiarity with BIM and Navisworks advantageous.
- Excellent people management skills with ability to lead and mentor site teams.
- Strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office; ability to produce and manage reports.
- Flexible approach with willingness to work outside normal hours if required.
