Role Purpose
The role of Mechanical Cx Engineer is to be responsible for the commissioning activities on a specific construction project. The activities associated with the project will vary and will be agreed with the Project Manager on an ongoing basis. You will coordinate the technical design with the onsite installation through to the successful commissioning ensuring that the Kirby Group vision, mission & values are fulfilled.
Project Mechanical Cx Engineer’s Roles & Responsibilities
EHS
- Read & understand EHS plan.
Quality
- Create Test Packs with the assistance of the Document Controller.
- Develop and update tracking matrix for test packs and walk-downs.
- Receipt verification (RV) of equipment and materials arriving on site
- Attend, supervise and record FATs as dictated in the ITP.
- Coordinate and record the execution of SATs as dictated in the ITP.
- Witness agreed percentage of on-site testing.
- Carry out internal pre-test and snagging walks using schematics and P&IDs to ensure each system is in technical compliance with the approved design and record results.
- Track closure of snags and advise the project manager on progress.
- Ensure Test Packs are complete and ready for third party inspection and walk-down.
- Lead third party walk-downs as dictated in the ITP and commissioning plan.
Planning
- Review and understand how a project schedule is constructed and labour loaded.
- Understand how the commissioning schedule is integrated into overall schedule.
- Update commissioning tracker.
Business Development
- Prepare technical summary of the scope of work and the key challenges and submit to the project manager for approval.
- Develop relationship with clients and designers through daily interactions and by attending social events
- Report any potential leads to securing new work to project manager.
Engineering
- Clarify technical queries with the design team through the request for information (RFI) system.
- Tag devices and instrumentation and spot each device on site in consultation with controls vendor and designer.
- Attend technical and commissioning meetings with members of the design team, contractors, and in‐house project team.
- Assist with development of commissioning Plan and implementation of same.
- Manage equipment vendors and specialist commissioning contactors when on site.
- Manage and track commissioning activities in line with agreed plan.
- Track the close out of commissioning snags in conjunction with the project manager and supervisors.
- Witness and verify commissioning activities and ensure certification is fully complete and aligned with the specification.
- Manage the production of the O&M manuals in compliance with the specification.
- Develop plan and undertake client training as required.
- Organise and assess the work of sub-contractors.
- Liaise and coordinate with members of the design team, contractors and in-house project team on technical and commercial issues.
- Assist in the production of weekly progress reports.
- Maintain live the engineering deliverable trackers inclusive of the technical submittal, RFI, benchmarking trackers.
- Independently carry out weekly site visits for system inspections, quality checks, safety audits, identifying and resolving site issues.
- Record and track the site visits activities and observations as part of site visit tracking system.
Communications
- Ensure weekly reports and trackers are developed and issued as agreed with the project manager.
- Attend weekly engineering meetings and work on closing out the assigned tasks.
Risk
- Highlight any risks that arise to the PM/ or populate Risk Log.
Commercial
- Understand the commercial fundamentals of a project including profit plans, potential variation logs and take offs’ etc.
- Advise the project quantity surveyor and the project manager of any potential cost impacts to the project on an ongoing basis.
HR
- Mentor Junior Engineers and assist in their development.
- Attend CPD workshops and events.
- Proactively and vigilantly keep information secure and fully comply with the Kirby Information Security Management System (ISMS). Necessary requirement of the Mechanical Engineer
- 3rd level qualification in Building Services Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or Senior Trades qualification or equivalent
- Significant Project engineering experience of 4 years+ with a mechanical contractor
- Previous record of delivering small to medium mechanical projects (Commercial, Industrial, pharma, data centre type projects)
- Commercial Awareness
- Capability of walking down mechanical systems to ensure compliance with specification
- Experience developing technical submittals, completing technical reviews and assessments.
- Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental systems and procedures - knowledge of the team, their strengths and weaknesses
- The ability to multi-task and manage many priorities
