Description

We’re supporting a global engineering organisation at their Darlington site with the hire of two experienced Product Design Engineering Product Specialists (Mechanical CAD) to support ongoing and future engine programmes.

This is a product-focused mechanical design role, suited to engineers who enjoy owning complex components or systems end-to-end and working closely with manufacturing, suppliers and cross-functional teams.

The role

You’ll lead the design and development of engine systems and components, applying strong mechanical engineering principles to deliver robust, optimised design solutions. The focus is on balancing performance, cost, durability, manufacturability and serviceability while meeting both internal and customer requirements.

You’ll be trusted to work independently, influence design decisions, and act as a recognised specialist within your area.

Key responsibilities

Lead component and subsystem design from concept through to design release
Own and present design intent through formal design reviews (PPT, VPI, VPCR)
Drive design decision-making, concept selection and optimisation

Apply and lead use of tools and processes such as iDFMEA, DVA, GD&T, Creo, ANSYS

Work closely with manufacturing, suppliers and cross-functional stakeholders

Provide technical leadership on complex components or smaller projects with ambiguity

Support continuous improvement of design processes and standards

Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians where required

Essential experience

Proven ownership of engine systems or engine components
Strong 3D CAD design capability (Creo essential)
Solid mechanical analysis experience at component or system level
Ability to work independently with internal and external stakeholders
Background in mechanical product design within a complex engineering environment

Nice to have

Experience with Windchill PLM
Recent ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) design experience

What we’re looking for

Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
Background operating at Senior or Lead Engineer level
Strong decision-making and problem-solving capability

Comfortable managing complexity and competing technical requirements

Clear, confident communicator who builds strong working relationships
