Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer – Inverters to be based at our customers site in Gaydon.
Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast-growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.
The Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Electrification team, focusing on the design and development of inverter systems and sub-assemblies.
This role requires a strong foundation in mechanical design principles, with proven experience in inverter component design, GD&T, creepage and clearance analysis, and tolerance stack-up. The ideal candidate will be proficient in 3D CAD tools (3Dx) and capable of delivering robust, innovative, and manufacturable solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead the mechanical design of inverter assemblies and components from concept through to production.
· Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure design intent and manufacturability.
· Conduct creepage and clearance analysis in compliance with high-voltage safety standards.
· Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to validate design robustness.
· Create and manage detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using 3Dx (or equivalent CAD tools).
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, thermal, and manufacturing engineers.
· Support design reviews, DFMEAs, and validation planning.
· Ensure designs meet performance, cost, and timing targets.
Required Skills & Experience:
· Proven experience in mechanical design of inverter systems or similar high-voltage power electronics.
· Strong knowledge of GD&T, creepage and clearance, and tolerance analysis.
· Proficient in 3Dx or equivalent 3D CAD software.
· Understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and design for assembly.
· Experience working in an automotive or high-voltage environment is highly desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
· Familiarity with automotive standards and EV powertrain systems.
· Experience with PLM systems and design release processes
