Based in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham, this team-based technician role will focus on providing mechanical engineering support to high profile, industrially funded projects in the field of Microwave Process Engineering. Whilst microwaves are invariably used for heating food in the home environment, our team utilise microwaves on a very large industrial scale to investigate de-carbonising the processing of materials ranging from ceramics and metal ores to coffee and biscuits.
About the role:
This mechanical based technician role is therefore required to support our team in the assembly and installation, as well as maintenance, design, modification and optimisation of some of the largest bespoke microwave processing systems in the world. Since this is a mechanical role, no prior experience of working with microwave technology is required.
Examples of weekly tasks could include the manufacture of one-off components for the microwave systems and/or assembly and installation of relevant equipment. Desirable experience therefore includes sheet metal fabrication techniques and the use of machine and hand tools. The role holder should also have the ability to provide prompt and effective solutions to engineering problems and contribute to the continual progression of diverse research projects using a broad range of engineering and laboratory skills and disciplines.
About you:
We welcome applications from candidates that either have substantial work experience in a relevant technical role or that have completed a recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship.
What we offer:
- A friendly, diverse, and supportive working environment.
- Staff development through the provision of training, continued support, and career progression opportunities.
- A generous holiday entitlement of 27 days plus standard bank holidays and five university closure days including closure between Christmas and New Year.
