The role
As a Mechanical Package Manager – Radiological, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Drive critical infrastructure development at Devonport as part of a significant investment programme supporting future MOD ship and submarine operations. The Major Infrastructure Projects (MIP) Business Unit delivers a portfolio of facility upgrades—including the design, build, and commissioning of docking and berthing facilities for Astute Class submarine maintenance.
Day-to-day, you’ll support the end-to-end delivery of new systems, working across the design, procurement, manufacturing, commissioning, and operational handover phases to ensure successful implementation aligned with programme objectives.
- Lead key project management functions, including scheduling, financial tracking, and risk oversight to ensure successful delivery.
- Define project scope and solutions; manage procurement and subcontractor activities from selection through to commissioning.
- Plan, monitor, and control internal and external resource-led work packages.
- Conduct cost forecasting, budget monitoring, and reporting against financial targets.
- Manage stakeholder relationships and drive effective communication and risk management across the project lifecycle.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.
Essential Experience Of The Mechanical Package Manager – Radiological
- Proven experience in engineering project management, ideally involving mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with nuclear-licensed sites or nuclear safety-related systems is preferred.
- Skilled in managing contracts using NEC 4 ECC/PSC (Options C & E) and tools such as CEMAR, MS Project, and BIM (desirable).
- Knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations.
- Proficiency with the MS Office Suite.
Qualifications For The Mechanical Package Manager – Radiological
- Hold a degree in engineering, project, or construction management (or equivalent qualifications such as HNC/HND with proven delivery experience)
- Possess a minimum APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent certification
- Be a Member of the Association for Project Management (MAPM) or actively working toward membership
- APM Risk Management Level 2 qualification is desirable
- APMG Project Planning and Controls Foundation certification (can be obtained post-appointment)

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
