Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick team as a
Mechanical Quality Engineer based at
Sellafield, Seascale and you'll be a big part of fascinating, complex, varied and meaningful work.
The purpose of the role is to oversee and maintain all site quality records and conduct quality inspections inline with the project requirements. Supporting the Quality Manager in delivery and compliant, right first time, high quality installation that meets the needs defined by regulations and customer defined requirements.
What you'll be doing
Ensuring the efficient implementation of all systems in accordance with the Business Management System (BMS), including document control, risk management, Control of Records and QA/QC procedures.
- Produce relevant Inspection & Test Plans (ITP’s) and ensure stages of ITP are strictly followed.
- Produce and maintain of Project Quality Plans.
- Ensure that the process is in place to deliver right first time to client specification, in conjunction with the Project Manager as appropriate. Where required provide training and put measures in place to support this.
- Carry out physical site inspections and tests on installed HVAC / mechanical systems including, but not limited to, the following:
- Goods receipt inspections of delivered materials.
- Visual and dimensional checks on brackets.
- Visual and dimensional checks on ductwork / pipework.
- Visual and dimensional checks on HVAC equipment.
- Cleanliness inspections of installed HVAC systems.
- Witnessing and recording of pressure tests.
- General site quality inspections.
- Manage the concurrent compilation of quality records in accordance with the ITP’s.
- Progress and update quality schedule inline with delivery schedule.
- Ensure systems are in place, in conjunction with the Construction Manager as appropriate, which allow the required specification to be clearly agreed by the project team.
- Support the development Project Quality strategies and plans and the implementation of measurement frameworks across the scope of services and full project lifecycle.
- Support the Quality team in dealing with external auditing governing bodies to maintain existing certification and continuous improvement.
- Provide quality improvement performance measures and recommendations, and share best practice.
- Provide a testing & inspection service for procured materials/equipment when necessary.
- By using the principles of quality assurance, and where appropriate technical integrity, ensure the customer requirements are clearly understood and that Quality Control mechanisms are in place that provide assurance that the asset and/or service delivers as designed/required.
- Produce project and/or business quality reports as required.
- Support the delivery of business stream quality programs and actions.
- Assist in training, coaching & developing quality skills in the construction team.
- Support the establishment of a continuous improvement culture.
- Undertake specific investigations and/or report on quality related issues as required.
Who we're looking for
The Following Experience/qualifications Are Required
- Previous HVAC experience is essential in either construction or quality roles (preferably both).
- Some form of recognised mechanical / HVAC qualification (i.e. NVQ Level 3).
- CSCS Card (White / Gold / Black).
- IPAF (3a and 3b) is required for this role but is not essential prior to employment.
- Experience in quality assurance / quality control within the mechanical industry.
- Ability to build strong relationships with delivery teams and project managers.
- Ability to gather, analyse and evaluate documents, test reports etc.
- Pays attention to detail and sees things through to completion.
- Can deliver reports orally and written in an objective and persuasive manner.
- Has good interpersonal and communication skills and acts in an independent and professional manner with the ability to influence others including senior management.
- Is a self-starter who manages their own time and seeks to add value to their function.
- Has an enquiring and questioning approach to audit work.
- Can obtain the required security clearances.
- High levels of integrity.
- Able to constantly focus on meeting/exceeding customer requirements and expectation.
- Become familiar and adhere to BB policy/procedure and the workflows and contract details, procedures/processes that are required for safe and timely execution. This includes proficiency in platforms such as BIM360, Sharepoint etc.
