Thalia Waste Management is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Technician at our Allerton Waste Recovery Plant. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of sustainable waste treatment and low-carbon energy recovery, within a dynamic, inclusive and safety-focused environment.
We are looking for experienced mechanical professionals from Energy from Waste, Petrochemical, or Power Generation sectors. If you have a strong engineering mindset and proven skills in mechanical maintenance, we’d like to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Technician, you will:
- Carry out mechanical maintenance, inspection, and repairs across the plant, including preventive and reactive tasks.
- Support the Lead Mechanical Engineer in maintaining high equipment availability, safety, and performance standards.
- Perform PPM checks, complete accurate maintenance records, and identify opportunities for equipment improvements.
- Undertake overhauls and servicing on:
- Steam valves
- Steam turbines
- Gas engines
- Hydraulic systems
- Use and update the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System).
- Participate in team briefings and toolbox talks.
- Adhere to and promote Thalia’s Health & Safety, Environmental, and Operational policies.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, proactive, and accountable team culture.
Essential
Required Qualifications & Experience - Recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
- Proven experience in mechanical maintenance
- Demonstrable expertise in at least one of the following:
- Steam systems
- Gas engines
- Hydraulic systems
- Coded welding or pressure vessels
Desirable
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health & safety qualification.
- Experience working with Permit to Work and Safe Systems of Work (SSoW).
- Knowledge of condition-based monitoring and proactive maintenance strategies.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Capable of writing and understanding risk assessments and maintenance documentation.
- Comfortable working in a regulated, safety-critical environment.
