At Thalia, we believe in transforming waste into opportunity; and we’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our team at Allerton Waste Recovery Park. You’ll help us deliver engineering excellence while supporting a cleaner, more efficient way to manage waste.
As a Mechanical Technician, you’ll support the Maintenance Manager in the operation and upkeep of mechanical systems and equipment across our 3 operational areas (Mechanical Treatment, Anaerobic Digestion and Incineration). Your work will help ensure optimal equipment availability, safety, and compliance, all while mentoring others and contributing to a high-performing engineering team.
The Role
- Carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance to maximise plant uptime.
- Troubleshoot faults and support fast, effective repairs across mechanical systems.
- Maintain accurate records using our Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Uphold the highest safety standards and lead by example during tool talks, handovers, and team briefings.
- Work collaboratively with operations, compliance, and engineering teams to meet site KPIs.
- Support the management of spare parts and liaise with contractors and suppliers on-site works.
The Person
You’ll be a hands-on problem-solver with experience in a mechanical maintenance environment, ideally in energy-from-waste, industrial services, or similar. You’ll bring a proactive mindset, a safety-first attitude, and a genuine desire to make a difference.
- Relevant mechanical qualifications or a time-served apprenticeship (essential).
- Experience with PPM, reactive maintenance, and mechanical fault finding.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative working style.
- Familiarity with Safe Systems of Work, risk assessments, and permit-to-work systems.
- IOSH Working Safely
- Basic welding/fabrication skills (desirable).
- Experience using CMMS platforms (desirable).
