Job Overview
Following a successful pilot project, Welsh Government have funded a School Mental Health In Reach Initiative on a Wales wide basis. The initiative aims to improve the wellbeing of pupils in High
Schools and Primary Schools by developing school staff’s skills and confidence to support pupils with lower-level mental health and wellbeing needs within their competence and within their role as
teachers; and enabling access to specialist provision where this is indicated.
Our team plays a key role in delivering these outcomes by working in partnership with schools, providing consultation, supervision and training to teachers and other key professionals; and working collaboratively with staff at a range of levels and from a range of
agencies to support a whole-school approach to improving mental wellbeing. Your role will be to support this work through providing direct clinical services (including assessment of need and provision of therapeutic interventions) as required as well as other supportive tasks
relevant to the core remit of the service.
Main duties of the job
For children, young people and families and with appropriate supervision and support:
To provide psychologically minded holistic mental health assessments within a contextual, normative and developmental framework
To deliver evidence based therapeutic interventions (individual and group based)
To provide advice and information to school staff, including signposting to other sources of support
To support onward referral to more appropriate community based or secondary and specialist services where indicated
To develop and maintain close relationships with school service providers and staff from a range of statutory and non-statutory services, providing advice and support to promote the management of those with mental health needs.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
