Description
Are you a third-year student coming to the end of your studies and due to qualify in 2025 or a newly qualified midwife ? If so, come and join our friendly team where we can offer you a supportive and established preceptorship program if you are newly qualified. As part of the preceptorship program, you will be allocated a named member of the team for support whereby we have an 'open door policy, so you can speak to us at any time. You will be given four bespoke study days per year for reflection, learning and improving the service. This is where we bring all our preceptors together and have speakers to talk about any specific areas that you are interested in. You are given a protected induction period and we are invested in supporting you in your transition to the role of midwife. Our Early Careers Midwife is only a bleep away, should you require support in the clinical areas.

We want to provide woman-centred, family friendly care and offer a range of models of midwifery and obstetric care provision. This includes midwife-led care, continuity of carer models, and specialist care provided by our obstetric teams for women with more complex needs, as well as community midwifery services.

We place the woman, baby and family at the centre of our service. We are a consultant led unit with a dedicated Midwifery led care area within our delivery suites and deliver care to a diverse population with complex medical and social needs working alongside a team of Specialist Midwives.

UHDB has cross sites with consultant units at Derby and Burton on Trent, alongside Birth centre at Derby

We have rotational Midwives post, which involves Midwives working across areas of our Maternity services, including Pregnancy assessment/Antenatal services, Labour ward and our antenatal/postnatal wards.

We are proud of the Maternity services we offer and if you are considering applying for a post you welcome to look round our Maternity Unit and find out more about our Midwifery posts.

An extensive induction package is offered to any successful candidate joining our Maternity services to ensure you are well supported and have time to adjust to working within our services.

Closing date of applications: 13 August 2025

Onboarding days: 27, 28 or 29 August 2025

At UHDB around 9,000 babies are born across our two sites each year at Royal Derby Hospital (RDH) and Queens Hospital Burton (QHB). We provide antenatal and postnatal care for 11,500 women each year and, at RDH, we offer an alongside birth centre. We support women through low and high-risk care pathways, and some specialty pathways like diabetes and cardiology.

We have staff who are kind, caring and compassionate, and who want to deliver exceptional care together for every person who needs us - and that remains our aspiration.

This is an exciting new era on our maternity improvement journey, following a £5.4million investment into our services to strengthen our workforce, our technology and our processes, so that we can further improve what we do and deliver the best quality care to women and their babies. This is a great opportunity to join UHDB and make a real impact for the women and families we care for.

As a University Trust we value learning, teaching, and training so that we help you to be the best that you can be. From the moment you start with us and throughout your career we will help you to grow and develop. We are a vibrant and inclusive organisation, and we always want to treat our patients and staff with the same compassion and empathy we expect for ourselves.

An extensive induction package is offered to successful candidates joining our Maternity services to ensure you are well supported and have time to adjust to working within our teams.
