Mixed Methods User Researcher
This is a hybrid role working from home and either of our office in London or Leicester.
Home. There’s no place like it.
And there’s no feeling like helping people create the joy of feeling truly at home. At Dunelm, that’s what we do. We’re the UK's number one choice for homewares because we make home life lovelier for our customers. And we’ve crafted a workplace that feels just as welcoming – where you can bring your ideas, be yourself, and feel right at home.
You’ll play a key role in shaping our app experience by uncovering user needs, behaviours, and pain points through a mix of methods—from in-depth interviews to behavioural analytics.
Reporting to the Principal User Researcher, you will be part of a growing UX Research function, embedded in the wider Product & UX Team and working closely with a variety of teams and stakeholders across the business.
What you’ll be doing
Your main focus will be our new mobile app, but you’ll also contribute to web experience projects when needed. You’ll:
- Design and run end-to-end user research—from discovery to evaluative studies—with a strong emphasis on quantitative and behavioural analytics.
- Translate research insights into actionable recommendations for product, design and engineering teams, drawing from both data patterns and human stories.
- Share research findings across the company in an engaging and accessible way, advocating for the value of high-quality user research and the importance of understanding users holistically.
- Build a deep understanding of user needs and behaviours and actively promote a customer-centric mindset across teams.
- Collaborate with fellow researchers/data functions across the business to elevate collective knowledge and keep abreast of the latest research best practices/ technologies.
- Contribute to research operations - helping shape our processes, documentation, and standards to support a scalable and inclusive research practice.
What we’ll look for in you
You will play a critical role in the shaping and advancing the UX Research function at Dunelm. We’re looking for someone who brings both skills and mindset to the role.
You’ll have:
- Good experience in user research, ideally at consumer-focused companies, with a strong foundational training.
- Hands on mobile app research experience.
- Strong skills in quantitative research, including survey design, statistical analysis, data visualisation.
- A good grasp of qualitative methods (such as interviews, usability testing, diary studies etc) and when to apply them to uncover deeper insights.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and balance speed with rigor.
- Strong collaboration skills – you work well with designers, PMs, engineers and analysts.
- A real passion for finding new, effective ways to solve problems for our customers and colleagues.
- A good level of understanding of and experience with analytics, survey and visualisation tools such as HotJar, ContentSquare, GA4, Python, Power BI or similar.
- Familiar with user research platforms such as UserTesting, UsabilityHub or similar.
We value behaviours that reflect our core values: acting like owners, continuous learning and listening, long-term thinking, and collaboration. In our UX and Product teams, this looks like:
- Customer Focus: You advocate for real user needs.
- Curiosity: You seek out new ideas and industry trends.
- Critical Thinking: You challenge assumptions and encourage innovation.
- Clarity & Empowerment: You simplify complexity and help teams make confident decisions.
- Relationship Building: You foster trust and open communication.
- Progress Enablement: You make pragmatic decisions and keep things moving.
