Network & Cyber Security Engineer – Contract – Hybrid Reading or Staines
We’re hiring for a Network & Cyber Security Engineer to support a range of high-impact UK-based industrial automation projects.
This is an initial 12-month contract, operating outside IR35, on a hybrid basis with Tuesdays and Wednesdays required on-site Reading, or Staines. Additional flexibility may be offered for exceptional candidates. Occasional UK travel may be required (fully expensed).
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement secure networks for automation and control systems
- Conduct cyber risk assessments, security reviews, and vulnerability audits in operational technology (OT) environments
- Develop network architecture diagrams, data flow documentation, IP schedules, firewall configurations, and test procedures
- Evaluate and mitigate security risks across networks, systems, and industrial software
- Provide input into materials requisitions and vendor evaluations
- Review network documentation from third parties and internal disciplines
- Contribute to security design documentation and compliance activities
- Stay current with the latest OT/ICS security threats and best practices
- Apply knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, OPC) and their security considerations
Requirements:
- BSc degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field
- Strong background in control system network design and engineering
- Understanding of IEC 62443 (industrial cybersecurity) and ISO 27001 (information security management)
- Familiarity with OT/ICS security principles and the integration of physical and cyber protections
- Experience working with brownfield upgrades and industrial automation platforms
- Ability to create and maintain detailed technical documentation
- Knowledge of network hardware, virtual environments, and modern cybersecurity practices
Desirable Qualifications:
- Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CWNP, GICSP, or ISA/IEC 62443
- Familiarity with Rockwell, Honeywell, and Schneider automation systems
- Experience with OT Intrusion Detection Systems, telecom protocols, or satellite comms
