Led by our new CISO, Yolande Young, the in-house Information Security team is a core part of our technology services structure with mature or evolving capability across all areas of digital security and cyber defence. We align our efforts to the NIST framework and other recognised certifications including ISO27001 and SOC2 and strive to keep pace with the continually evolving threat landscape, in support of A&O Shearman's strategy to lead where global complexity creates opportunity.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to share and gain intel from the firm's cybersecurity lawyers. The global team have experience advising clients on hundreds of incidents. Leveraging this experience, they feedback practical lessons learned into clients' cyber risk management and incident response programmes.


What you will do

The Network Security Senior Analyst will be part of the information security team and will be responsible for supporting the security of the network architecture and infrastructure used by the firm. This role involves supporting and contributing to the continuous enhancement and refinement of network security controls, tools, mechanisms, and procedures.

This will include:

Network Security Tooling and Infrastructure

  • Carry out configuration changes and perform firmware upgrades for network security tooling and appliances, to ensure optimal security standards are maintained.

  • Take part in the execution of network security improvement initiatives with support from senior colleagues, helping to ensure alignment with business objectives and timely delivery.

  • Monitor key metrics relating to network infrastructure to identify potential information security threats, risks, and indications of compromise.

  • Administer and maintain the firm's firewalls and other network appliances (with support/guidance from senior colleagues) to ensure that they are up-to-date with latest security patches/features, configured securely, perform well, and are reliable.

  • Assist with the definition and implementation of configurations, policies, and rules for network firewalls, ensuring they align with security best practices and business requirements.


Security & Compliance

  • Collaborate closely with the wider technology, IT and information security teams to ensure secure configuration of network infrastructure at all times, and that any security issues, such as vulnerabilities are mitigated or remediated promptly.

  • Support the Cyber Defence team with incident response activities relevant to the firm's network infrastructure.

  • Contribute to the promotion of a culture of security awareness and risk mitigation, aligning networking practices with broader information security goals.

  • Assist in the Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) team in answering any client queries and requests pertaining to network infrastructure, where appropriate.


Documentation & Governance

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of the firm's documentation related to the security of the network infrastructure, such as policies, procedures, standards, playbooks, and diagrams.

  • Maintain accurate records of network configurations, incidents, and changes to ensure compliance and to facilitate any audits.


Mentorship and Advocacy

  • Mentor and support junior colleagues in supporting and managing the security of the firm's network infrastructure.

  • Advocate for information security across the firm and drive an evolved culture of risk awareness and mitigation.

  • Provide any required training and guidance around network security best practices to wider technology, IT and information security colleagues, alongside other relevant stakeholders within the firm.


What you will have

  • Extensive experience in a relevant IT or information security role, with significant experience in a network engineering or similar role as described above.

  • Deep understanding and confidence in working with key network technologies, protocols, and standards, including (but not limited to): TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLAN, VPN, etc.

  • Existing or previous member of a network engineering team, with proven experience and expertise in designing, implementing and maintaining network infrastructure.

  • Recognised industry certifications in networking (e.g., Cisco CCNP, Microsoft certifications).

  • Hands-on experience with industry-standard network monitoring and management tools.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the firm.


You will stand out if you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.

  • Experience with networking in major cloud service providers (e.g., Azure, GCP, AWS).

  • Experience with industry-standard security frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001).
