Purpose of Role:

  • The Network Architect will serve as technical authority for network environments within Harbour Energy and SME for both our network vendors, business users and other IS teams, along with associated traditional Infrastructure vendors.
  • The role will receive functional, technical, and administrative guidance from the Network Lead.
  • The Network Architect is responsible for designing and implementing complex network infrastructures that meet the needs and objectives of our organisation.
  • This role demands a balance of high-level technical expertise, strategic planning, and exceptional communication skills to translate business requirements into effective and scalable network solutions.

Critical Responsibilities (MAE/MATTE/HSES):

Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner complying with all regulatory requirements, legislation and Harbour Energy HSES Procedures.

Ethics and Compliance Responsibilities:

Ensure that all activities and behaviours are carried out in accordance with Harbour Energy’s Ethics and Compliance Policies and Procedures, and to complete any compulsory compliance training as required.

Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence:

  • Leads the design and delivery of strategic network transformation initiatives at a global scale, including cloud enabled networking and hybrid infrastructure, while aligning architectural solutions with business objectives and operational needs.
  • Design and Development: Architect, design, and implement robust network solutions that align with organisational goals and industry best practices and compliant with relevant industry standards such as OG-86.
  • Network Strategy: Develop and maintain a comprehensive network strategy to ensure scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Cost focus: Develop strategies that optimise cost-efficiency and deliver value while successfully achieving objectives.
  • Develop secure designs that meet or exceed our security objectives and engage in risk and resilience assessments.
  • Technology Assessment: Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to enhance network performance and security.
  • Documentation: Create/Maintain detailed network diagrams, documentation, and standards to ensure consistency and clarity across the organisation.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with IS teams, business leaders, and external vendors to gather requirements and deliver effective network solutions.
  • Work with external managed service providers to develop and review network architecture sections of contracts and participate in supplier governance to verify contract compliance.
  • Communication: Written and verbal communication of design plans and ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
  • Troubleshooting: Provide expert level support for complex network issues and perform root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
  • Compliance: Ensure network designs comply with relevant industry regulations, security standards, and organisational policies.
  • Capacity Planning: Monitor network performance and plan for future capacity needs to prevent bottlenecks and ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaboration with the operational teams for solutions being implemented, to manage any issues and provide assurance and assistance in ensuring the solution is successfully passed over.
  • Provide operational support as a technical expert in situations where the need arises due to the criticality of the issues.
  • Mentor other team members as required to develop network design and architecture capabilities across the team.

Critical Skills, Qualifications, Experience, etc.:

Essential

  • Experience: Proven experience in network design, implementation, and management, with recent responsibility in a network architect capacity.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), or equivalent.
  • Experienced in design of solutions for harsh environment such as marine and offshore locations, with high latency communications.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of networking protocols, routing, switching, firewall configuration, VPN, and network security.
  • Experience with SD-WAN solutions for on-prem and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Experience with cloud networking and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Experience in working with large scale managed service providers across multiple geographies.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to design and optimise complex network infrastructures.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders and document network designs.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver within deadlines.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.

Preffered

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proficiency in network automation and scripting.
  • Experience in network architecture role within the oil and gas industry
  • Knowledge of wireless networking technologies.
  • Experience with SD-WAN and network virtualisation technologies.
