Job Title: Night Transport Supervisor
Contract Type: 4 on / 4 off (Nights)
Shift Pattern: 12-hour shifts 20.00pm to 08.00am
Location: Northampton
Reports to: Transport Manager
Job Summary:
We are looking for a proactive and experienced Night Transport Supervisor to join our logistics team on a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern. You will be responsible for supervising and coordinating all night transport operations to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of goods, maintaining compliance with legal and safety standards, and providing leadership to drivers and operational staff during the night shift.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise all transport operations during night shifts, ensuring deliveries and collections are completed on time and in full.
Manage and monitor driver performance, including start times, breaks, route adherence, and compliance with Working Time Directive and tachograph legislation.
Ensure effective communication between the night team and day shift management.
Conduct pre- and post-shift briefings and debriefings with drivers.
Respond promptly to delivery issues, delays, or breakdowns, coordinating recovery or rescheduling as required.
Maintain accurate transport records including delivery logs, vehicle checks, and driver hours.
Support the planning team with any last-minute routing changes or urgent requests.
Ensure that all vehicles and drivers are operating safely and legally at all times.
Liaise with customers when needed to resolve issues or provide updates.
Promote a culture of health, safety, and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
Proven experience in a transport or logistics supervisory role, preferably within night operations.
Strong knowledge of transport legislation, including driver hours and tachograph rules.
Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, especially under pressure.
Strong IT skills, including experience with transport management systems (TMS).
Effective communicator with good leadership skills.
Flexible and adaptable with a hands-on approach.
CPC qualification desirable but not essential.
