Applications are invited for the role of Year 5 Tutor.
Applicants should demonstrate an interest in, and an understanding of, undergraduate medical education. Duties include facilitating regular tutor group meetings, signing off students at the mid-point and endpoint of the course, and facilitating students’ learning on the ward and in clinic. The role also includes active participation in medical student assessments (for example, long cases and OSCEs).
Main duties of the job
- This is a 0.5 PA per week role as a Year 5 medical student tutor in the North Bristol Academy.
- There is 1 post available.
- The post is open to academic and NHS consultant and SAS staff.
- The post is for a fixed period of 3 years but is renewable for a further 2 years subject to satisfactory annual educational appraisals.
- The post is expected to commence on 1st October 2025.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- Each tutor group consists of between 8 and 10 Year 5 medical students. You will be expected to meet with your tutor group weekly during term time (27 weeks of the year) for 60 to 90 minutes.
- Provide a point of first contact for general pastoral issues.
- Listen to and support student presentations, facilitate discussion about their content, and provide feedback on content and presentation style.
- Agree with students the topics of tutor group presentations and facilitate their preparations for presentations and assess and complete Case Based Discussion forms.
- Monitor the attendance of students at the tutor groups.
- Review students’ clerking portfolios on a regular basis.
- Undertake individual mid-point and end-point reviews for all students on their ePortfolios providing summative feedback in accordance with the University of Bristol Year 5 Student Progression document.
- Identify and help to correct any incidental deficiencies in the students’ achievement of learning objectives (e.g., due to an unexpected absence of a learning opportunity).
- Attend central University Year 5 meetings. These can be attended on-line.
- Be an examiner at the annual Year 3 or Year 4 Objective Structured Clinical Examinations which take place at the end of the academic year (June and July).
- Contribute to the overall assessment process on behalf of the North Bristol Academy which will include examining Year 5 Long Case exams.
- Meet with one of the Academy Deans regularly and participate in an annual educational review.
