The main aim of the role is the effective management of Highway served Defects & Coring failures within the designated operating area, liaising with Local Authorities and SP Energy Networks contract partners.
The Streetworks Inspector will also undertake Reinstatement Inspections & Safety Audits on works within the highway making sure Chapter 8, The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, the SROH and SPEN Cable Contract are adhered to.
What You’ll Be Doing
Inspection and Compliance Oversight
Responsible for managing inspections, defects, coring, and other related activities, ensuring thorough reporting to the relevant Contractor and Team Leader. This includes implementing, monitoring, and reporting on NRSWA Reinstatement site audits, as well as conducting site safety compliance audits in accordance with Chapter 8 standards. All contractor work is reviewed to ensure alignment with the Cable Contract Framework.
Stakeholder Engagement and Liaison
Regularly liaise with internal business units regarding NRSWA reinstatements and maintain active communication with the Highways Authority within the designated district. Attend and represent the company at meetings and participate in Contractor Liaison meetings to raise and resolve relevant issues. Support operational personnel by providing expert advice on Streetworks and excavation activities.
Policy Implementation and Training
Apply Streetworks policy and best practice standards across all relevant operations. Ensure contractors and business units are informed of the correct processes and documentation required for NRSWA compliance. Deliver staff training on new developments, procedures, and practices to maintain high standards and regulatory alignment.
Sustainability and Financial Administration
Work collaboratively with contractors to encourage the use of recycled materials, contributing to the business’s carbon footprint reduction goals. Assist with the invoicing and receipting of NRSWA charges and associated outputs, ensuring accurate financial tracking and accountability. Investigate failures and defects affecting Energy Networks Streetworks and excavations to support continuous improvement.
What You’ll Bring
Working knowledge of:
- Chapter 8, New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 & SROH V4.
- Codes of practice relating to Streetworks activities.
Awareness Of
- Health, safety and environmental legislation when working in the Highway.
- Reinstatement materials used within the Highway.
Able To
- Plan time to optimise workload to meet business requirements.
- Establish good working relationships with the business and contractors.
- Communicate effectively to the business and equivalents within contract organisations.
- Influence with both internal and external parties.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
- Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges.
Qualifications/Training
Essential
- Supervisor's qualification on the Streetworks Qualifications Register.
- Valid Full UK driving license.
Minimum Criteria
- Operatives qualification on the Streetworks Qualifications Register.
- Experience working within the Highway.
- Computer literacy – e.g. Microsoft Office suite.
