Main duties of the job

To provide excellent, high-quality person-centred clinical care that advocates for patients, strive to provide a service fit for today and the future, develop personal leadership to support clinical growth.

The post is a key part of the OT discharge service supporting registered staff with the assessment and rehabilitation

This role includes :-

  • Assessment of trauma and elective patients who have been referred Occupational Therapy
  • Taking equipment out to patients’ homes and fitting items (training will be given)
  • Setting up / providing follow up visits for prescribed equipment,
  • maintenance of stock,
  • Liaison with outside agencies and patients’ families,
  • Teaching patients and their families how to use and fit the equipment
  • Undertaking falls assessments

The post is based at Frimley Park Hospital but applicants must be able to travel between all Frimley Health's hospitals and patient's homes.

Person specification

Qualificaion/ skills exprience

Essential criteria

  • GCSE or equivalent qualification in English and Mathematics.
  • Knowledge of anatomy/physiology/ clinical knowledge of specialty
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • Foundation Degree or equivalent in related field / or willingness to work towards

Competencies

Essential criteria

  • Interpersonal skills to include concise and effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to instruct and motivate
  • Organisational skills, ability to prioritise and manage day.
  • Logical, ability to problem solve
  • IT skills
  • Ability to conduct and respond to risk assessments
  • working knowledge of equipment / minor adaptations
  • Basic understanding of the patient condition and its impact on the therapy intervention.

Desirable criteria

  • Negotiation skills, able to overcome barriers to exercise.

PROFESSIONAL/ experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience as Band 3 Occupational Therapy assistant within an NHS setting
  • Stock management
  • Working within a team
  • Experience of working directly with patients
  • Experience working with wheelchairs

Desirable criteria

  • Evaluating outcomes of equipment use
  • Knowledge of therapy interventions acquired through training or experience within a healthcare setting

Special reuirements

Essential criteria

  • Willingness to work flexibly
  • Able to work to a 7 day pattern
  • To be able to travel to and from pts properties, to provide equipment
