Role Overview
Reporting into the Ocean Freight Team Leader, the
Ocean Freight Operator is responsible for the end-to-end management of import shipments, from initial booking through to final delivery. The role requires a highly organised individual with strong client service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities within a dynamic logistics environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage import shipments from booking stage through to delivery and job file completion
- Complete import customs declarations in line with UK compliance
- Liaise with clients to manage haulage arrangements
- Raise client invoices and ensure accurate job costing
- Coordinate and verify customs and port health documentation
- Communicate professionally with overseas partners, clients, and internal teams
- Proactively respond to and resolve shipment queries in a timely manner
- Obtain relevant shipment and supplier information from online sources
- Adhere to internal deadlines and performance standards
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the freight team
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience in freight forwarding or a similar logistics role
- Demonstrated ability to manage full-cycle import operations
- Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritise workloads
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
- Experience with Cargowise is desirable but not essential
- Self-motivated, organised, and capable of working on own initiative
