Public Health Specialist Role Profile
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Public Health Specialist for Healthcare Public Health to join the Plymouth City Council Public Health team. The Public Health team is part of a large integrated Directorate that also includes Public Protection, Civil Protection and Bereavement Services. We work in partnership across healthcare, including with key partners in the NHS, commissioned providers and wider partners across Plymouth and the region.
You will contribute to the planning, development, and implementation of public health programmes linked to healthcare, engaging with the system to drive forward proactive work across a full range of healthcare challenges, from cancer to diabetes to cardiovascular disease. This will include work aligned with priorities identified across healthcare partners, from pharmacies and dentists to hospitals and GP practices. You will also support our public health work linked to the NHS 10-year plan and Integrated Neighbourhood working, and will work actively with the Integrated Care Board and Local Care Partnership.
Effective partnership working is central to this post. You will promote and facilitate joint working, collaboration and integrated programmes between partner agencies and key stakeholders and ensure local communities are effectively supported in all aspects of public health linked to health care.
As a Public Health Specialist, you will have a senior strategic role in the team, reporting to a Consultant in Public Health. This role also offers the opportunity to across Public Health, and to work on a breadth of thematic areas and projects, spanning all of public health.
You must have a relevant degree, professional qualification or equivalent work-based experience in public health, with specialist knowledge of public health practice in relation to health care and the NHS. Experience of strategic multi-agency working and leading the delivery of public health or health care programmes is essential, as are excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and challenge existing practice to identify solutions A higher degree in Public Health or a similar subject is desirable, as is project management and change management experience.
This role is suitable for flexible working subject to the needs of the service, although there is an expectation of working in person with partners across Plymouth as required.
