Duration: Permanent, this role is a full-time opportunity; flexible working patterns will be considered.
Location: This role is based in Glasgow St Vincent Street.
Band & Salary: Band 4B - £35,582 - £42,218 per annum

Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for an individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality timetabling solutions that support the effective use of capacity and meet the evolving needs of our industry. This role requires someone who brings a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a collaborative approach to help us optimise operations and deliver impactful, inclusive results.
About The Role (External)
What does an average day look like?
Each day brings variety, challenge, and the opportunity to make a real impact. You’ll start by collaborating closely with customers and stakeholders to develop and deliver complex, compliant timetables that meet both operational needs and industry standards. Alongside this, you’ll influence the delivery of a zero-defect timetable nationally, supporting planners to act positively on feedback and drive quality.
Using your analytical skills, you’ll explore innovative solutions to capacity and optimisation challenges, identifying new ways of working that enhance planning outcomes and support broader industry goals. Your day may also involve flexibly delivering key outputs aligned with Capacity Planning priorities and the Network Code, Part D.
Teamwork and growth are at the heart of what we do, so you’ll play an active role in promoting continuous improvement, sharing best practice, and supporting the development of others. As a role model of Network Rail behaviours, you’ll contribute to a culture of learning and collaboration, helping shape the future of capacity planning.
Essential Criteria
- In depth knowledge and significant experience of planning complex timetables
- In depth knowledge and proven understanding of the Network Code and its practical application
- Comprehensive knowledge of the railway industry and its planning processes
- Ability to demonstrate proven effective communication and a customer centric
approach
Understanding of and ability to apply continuous improvement methodology
