As a result of organisation growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operations Manager within the healthcare sector to join our senior team on a full time, permanent basis.
Working from our regional Head Office in Shropshire, the Operations Manager will play a pivotal leadership role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred services across the Out of Hours GP Service and CCCSPA across the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin (STW) region.
Operating at
pace and with a
high degree of autonomy, the postholder will drive performance, innovation, and continuous improvement across the service. As a key member of the leadership team, you will work closely with the Associate Director of Operations, Operations Manager, and Senior Clinical Leads, translating our strategic vision into on the ground operational delivery. The role will require strong collaboration with clinicians as well as internal and external stakeholders to ensure services are safe, responsive, and effective.
Please note that whilst this role will predominantly be based around a Monday-Friday office hours work pattern, our operation runs around the clock, 365 days/year. As such, you'll need to bring a flexible approach to your work pattern and occasionally flex to evening, weekend and bank holiday work.
About You
As an
experienced Operations Manager within the healthcare sector, the postholder will be confident and comfortable with essential managerial duties such as managing staff (who work both in office and remotely), working to deliver high-quality patient care and compliance with healthcare regulations. You will be able to work under pressure, under pressure, manage competing priorities and make confident decisions at pace.
Our ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader who thrives in fast-paced, changing environment. Proven leadership experience in a health or social care setting (regulated environment) is essential. You will oversee key elements of the service such as medicines management and controlled drugs processes, ensuring robust systems for ordering, delivery, storage, and auditing are in place and compliant with governance standards.
Our ideal candidate will possess a professional qualification in Operational Management (CMI, ILM or similar) or be able to demonstrate a significant level of Operations Management experience within a relevant healthcare setting.
About The Role
The STW Service Manager will provide line management to Operational Team Leads, offering professional leadership and oversight not only to direct reports but also to the wider Urgent Care Team. They will be instrumental in fostering a culture of accountability, resilience, and excellence across all service areas. You will also provide operational management and support across the region, maintaining a regular physical presence across all areas of the STW Out of Hours Service.
The key responsibilities of the role will include but not be limited to:
- Leading the effective, consistent, and resilient operational delivery of STW services, ensuring appropriate managerial and professional infrastructure is in place.
- Providing line management for all non-clinical staff based in STW (to include both office and remote workers)
- Ensure adherence to all operational and professional protocols and systems.
- Ensuring the seamless coordination between local and head office-based service delivery functions.
- Ensuring treatment centres are fully prepared for clinical practice and patient care, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, infection prevention and control (IP&C), and regulatory compliance.
- Conducting regular inspections and audits of facilities, coordinating with teams to address issues and maintain a safe environment
- Overseeing the maintenance and readiness of the out-of-hours fleet vehicles, ensuring compliance with safety and legal standards, and proper equipping with medical kits and supplies.
- Collaborate with the Resourcing Function to optimise staffing and operational effectiveness.
- Participating in the out-of-hours On Call Manager rota and ensure familiarity with business continuity processes.
